About the role:
Reporting to the Digital Strategy Editor, we are seeking a Digital Producer to collaborate closely with our editors and reporters. Responsibilities include refining content, curating our website for an optimal reader experience, and assisting in content distribution through newsletters and social media channels.
Located in the Inner Harbor office, our workspace fosters collaboration within an open-concept environment, with a typically moderate noise level. Responsibilities:
  • Write compelling headlines, especially for mobile and social media.
  • Curate the home page and work closely with reporters and editors to incorporate multimedia elements into stories, ensuring that photos, graphics, and videos inform and engage online readers and viewers.
  • Assist in content distribution through newsletters, alerts, and social media.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to envision and create digital content.
  • Consider accessibility, usability, and future-friendly web standards.
  • Occasionally write/edit and publish breaking news and weather, daily news, sports and feature stories for our website, and other social media platforms
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in journalism or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a digital or web production role for a publisher, preferably a news outlet.
  • Familiarity with content management systems and newsroom workflow tools
  • Experience with visual editing, design, and/or data visualization software (such as Canva, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flourish and Datawrapper).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, content management systems, Adobe Creative Suite, online data visualization tools
  • Ability to write headlines and captions according to Banner and AP Style.
  • Detail-orientated, inquisitive nature, and devoted to learning and development.
  • Teamwork and willingness to collaborate with others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • A commitment to upholding journalist values and ethics.
  • Willingness to work some nights and weekends as news dictates.
