The Boston Foundation is Hiring a Leadership Giving Officer Near Boston, MA

Job Description Title: Leadership Giving Officer
Department: Development and Donor Service
Reports To: Associate Vice President, Leadership Giving
FLSA Classification: Exempt FTE: (1)
Supervises: None
Hybrid Schedule (subject to change): In-office three days a week; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Remote work on Monday and Friday.
Position Budgeted : $80,000.00 - $90,000.00
Position SummaryThe Leadership Giving Officer works with a dedicated team of gift officers to achieve revenue goals for the Boston Foundation’s fundraising priorities, including Annual Fund, Donor Advised Funds and gifts to program initiatives. The Leadership Giving Officer must have a strong orientation to proactively identify, cultivate, solicit, and successfully close major gifts (defined as >$5,000 for the Annual Fund and >$1M for Donor Advised Funds), in collaboration with others, in a coordinated moves management system. This position will contribute towards the Boston Foundation’s ambitious goals under the Campaign for A Greater Boston to inspire and align the community and its many resources in support of achieving equity for Greater Boston residents.
The Campaign for A Greater Boston will run from at least 2024 up to 2030, the 400th anniversary of Boston’s founding, and focuses on building the Boston Foundation’s discretionary endowment, expanding the Annual Fund for Civic Leadership, and growing our base of Donor Advised Fund Program to increase alignment with Foundation goals within the wider donor community. With success in this campaign, the Boston Foundation will foster transformative community impact through priorities aligned with its new, equity-centered vision.
Essential Functions
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of 100-150 potential donors to cultivate and solicit for priority initiatives and giving opportunities, including major gifts for TBF initiatives, endowment/legacy gifts, and annual giving;
  • In concert with the Associate Vice President (AVP), responsible for regular communication and coordination of board leadership and their contact lists for solicitation as applicable;
  • Maintain protocols for donor notes and records in Salesforce to ensure accurate reporting and inform departmental activities; record notes of all donor meetings, next steps, and timely entry of activities;
  • Work collaboratively to manage prospect events, and other cultivation events including, but not limited to, timelines, activities, deadlines, tracking and coordination of guest lists, invitation mailings and follow up correspondence, completing research briefings;
  • Fields inquiries from prospects/donors via telephone, correspondence, and email; and
  • Drafts general correspondence, other written communications, and prepare development packets and other materials.
Other Duties And Responsibilities
  • Individuals assigned to this position may perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsPreparation, Knowledge, Previous Experience:
  • College degree or equivalent experience; and
  • At least 5 years of work experience with 3 years of direct fundraising experience; and
  • Experience with major gifts, moves management, prospect outreach, cultivation, and solicitation of donors.

  • Strong organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail and accuracy;

  • Proven experience building relationships;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products - especially Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint;
  • Database experience using Salesforce or an equivalent Customer Relations Management (CRM) platform strongly preferred;
  • Excellent presentation & reporting skills;
  • Professional and mature interpersonal work style with the ability to interact well with a diverse range of people;
  • Ability to adjust work activity to various management styles;
  • Ability to make decisions regarding organizing your own workload and managing multiple tasks;
  • Must be independent, proactive, and able to work under the pressure of deadlines;
  • Participatory work style; team player and sense of humor; ability to give and receive feedback;
  • Strong goal orientation with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities; and
  • Willingness and ability to handle confidential information.
Working Conditions And Physical Demands
  • Ability to work at workstation for long periods of time;
  • Ability to use a keyboard and electronic screen for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to use phone and/or video communications effectively and efficiently; and
  • Able and available to work on-site and remotely as required.
