We are currently seeking an Automotive Service Shop Manager with experience managing a mechanic shop or having experience as an Automotive Service Manager. Duties & Responsibilities

The Automotive Service Shop Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the operations of the Mechanic Shop. This includes supervision and mentoring of all shop personnel; ensuring exceptional customer service and support for internal customers; ensuring timely preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment; and managing all Mechanic Shop processes.

  • Directs all activities of Shop workflow and processes.
  • Coordinates repairs and maintenance with Mechanics; generating purchase orders as needed.
  • Assigns work to mechanics based on the type of repairs needed; managing the workflow for all Mechanics.
  • Continuously monitors the volume of work, planning staffing needed to ensure efficiency, quality, and timeliness of work completed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and assists Mechanics with diagnosis and repairs.
  • Effectively manages parts and supply inventory for Mechanic Shop.
  • Oversees lifecycle of fleet and equipment; evaluates the cost of repair or replacement of equipment and vehicles to make cost-effective decisions for repair or replacement.
  • Researches vendors and maintains vendor relationships to source the best prices and quality for parts.
  • Completes checklists and required paperwork to maintain compliance with DOT specifications.
  • Ensures timely completion and record-keeping of DOT inspections on all vehicles.
  • Supervises the completion of work orders in the work order system to ensure accurate vehicle records.
  • Works with Production Managers on equipment rotations, equipment assignments, and Crew Leaders on maintenance requests.
  • Ensures service calls are taken care of, and gives direction regarding repairs made in the field or those which need to be completed in the shop.
  • Implements proactive measures to maintain equipment fleet to prevent breakdowns.
  • Utilizes computerized shopmate systems to manage the annual maintenance program; ensuring the maintenance program is on schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with the COO, CEO, or other executives.
  • Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Work is primarily performed in a mechanic shop setting.
  • May have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, or cold).
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels.
  • Full extension of arms above the head and in front of the body.
  • Frequently lifts weight of up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally carries and pushes/pulls weights of up to 50 pounds.

Schedule

  • This is a Full-Time Year Round position.
  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm (50-55 hours per week). Saturday hours as needed.
  • Occasional overtime as workload dictates

Skills You Need

  • A minimum of three years of managerial/supervisor experience in a shop or similar environment.
  • At least 5 years of previous shop or mechanic experience, including knowledge of automotive and small engine repair, is required.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple priorities and varying workloads.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including problem-solving and employee relations management.
  • Ability to perform basic and complex repairs and required maintenance.
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to update computerized work orders and systems.
  • Understands budget and the job cost system; ability to manage labor and supply costs to ensure profitability
  • A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred.
