PRN Position RN/ LPN

Requires 3 shifts per month, 1 must be a weekend.

$250 Sign on bonus

GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The charge nurse consistently works with all team members, led by resident and family preference to meet the needs and desires of all residents. The charge nurse performs nursing functions at The Cedars LTC that requires at a minimum a licensed practical nurse. They guide the implementation of clinical policies and procedures which ensure safe, sanitary, and efficient practices supporting professional nursing care standard; assures that documentation, medication administration, resident nursing care, safety and sanitation, personnel and staff development, QIS process, materials management, continuous quality improvement and resident rights are in compliance with facility standards. Must be able to communicate regarding the medical care plan and physician order information. The charge nurse supports meeting all LTC resident needs by actively assisting (to the extent of cross training, certification, and designated procedures) in all tasks (nursing, activities, dining, and laundry) to meet identified needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

  • The charge nurse participates in in planning, organizing, directing, and facilitating of the Long-Term Care to nurture a holistic person-centered and resident directed culture, ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen the ability of the house/neighborhood to grow as a separate effective home/neighborhood, and promote individual and team learning in the house.
  • The charge nurse fosters collaboration, consensus, and negotiation to address problem solving with an emphasis on resident, family or designated representative relationships and teamwork.
  • The charge nurse oversees that the house is maintained in a safe, comfortable, welcoming, and functional environment by assessing the house for potential hazards, implementing practices utilizing appropriate techniques regarding sanitation, infection control, fire safety, disaster preparedness and emergency care, investigating and reporting all incidents and accidents, observing the team for safe work habits, customer service, and addressing observations.
  • The charge nurse carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with The Cedars policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Included in the nursing function is participating in the hiring process and assuring the orientation, training, directing work, and evaluation of all staff cross trained in the House Nurses professional area is adequate to support quality outcomes with both residents and staff.
  • The charge nurse guides all house clinical staff to support organizational fiscal viability through efficient and effective use of all resources, including maintaining clinical staffing and supply budgets within planned expenditures, maintain staffing patterns consistent with the philosophy, objectives, and availability of resources.
  • Must be always professional.
  • Must be able to delegate tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Must be able to handle problems and disputes calmly and effectively in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all staff in your assigned houses/neighborhoods are held accountable for their job duties, along with following policy and procedures set by The Cedars and enforced by the DON.
  • Be able to coach, educate, and discipline staff that are working under your license when they are not accountable for their job requirements or following policy.

Delegation of authority

Authority is delegated to the individual in this position in amounts appropriate for the completion of assigned duties.

This position reports to: Director of Nursing

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Must possess, at a minimum, a current Nursing License in the State of Kansas from an accredited college or university.

Experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility preferred.

Prefer training experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.

Prefer experience with electronic medical records with a health care facility.

Able to deal with frequent interruptions.

Skills at dealing with emotional situations.

Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Must have excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.

Must be able to stand for up to 8 hours, lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Meets all physical requirements of the position: lift, pull and carry up to 50#.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Will comply with all federal and state regulatory requirements to maintain certification and active registry as Licensed nurse job duties require.
