Job Details
DescriptionOVERVIEW:The part-time Security Specialist/Control Room Operator works to ensure the security and protection of the museum facility, campus, visitors, staff, volunteers, and collections for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. The operator is responsible for monitoring the video management system and Access Control as well as communicating issues, incidents, and general operations updates to all staff. The incumbent remains in communications with all departments assigned radios and rotates staff to posts and job duties during shifts. They provide assistance with security operations on the floor regularly. The operator is responsible for effective administration and management of automated security and fire life safety systems.

  • Ensures the integrity and functionality of the security systems, cameras, and sensors within the museum and remote site locations by monitoring, communicating, trouble shooting and reporting any issues.
  • Understands, monitors, and remains current on all automated systems in the Control Room. Trains other Security personnel to utilize the systems appropriately.
  • Operate systems, including but not limited to, radio, fire alarms, panic alarms, intercom, weather, call boxes, e-mail, activity logs and telephone. Operates video monitoring system and access control through the use of multiple monitoring screens.
  • Conducts assigned patrols of the building, campus, grounds, and parking areas. Responsible for facility security opening duties prior to public hours and securing the building after closing.
  • Ensures safe delivery of cash and money transports within the campus by escorting authorized personnel. Provides traffic and parking assistance during high visitation.
  • Provides leadership in emergency protocols for evacuation and relocation and assists visitors and staff in the event of an emergency. Participates in the Safety Warden program and ensures effective emergency response for all emergency situations and drills.
  • Operates fire and life safety equipment to include, fire extinguishers, emergency defibrillators, and other first aid equipment.
  • Monitors and routes emergency calls from within and outside the museum campus.
  • Provides basic vehicular assistance such as jump starts, lock outs and tire changes.
  • Serves as backup and offers support for other departments when needed.
Requirements
  • Three (3) years proven experience in security and first response with oversight of camera systems. CPR/AED and Stop the Bleed certification or proof of attainment within 6 months of employment.
  • EMR/EMT Certification preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Indiana driver’s license.
  • Must be highly motivated, detail oriented and able to work independently with strong decision-making skills. Knowledge of computer operations and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of de-escalation and conflict resolution skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be able to work weekends and available on holidays and evening shifts.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Special consideration given to those applicants who are multi-lingual.
Ada Requirements
  • Must be able to perform extensive work in indoor and outdoor environments, to perceive space, to read documents, view computer monitors, surveillance equipment and make general observations of people, objects and equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate through projecting voice and varying tone. Team and group dialog required for communication of plans and concepts.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, squat, and kneel for long periods of time frequently in uniform. Must be able to negotiate pedestrian travel throughout the museum physical plant and campus.
  • Must be able to lift objects up to 45 pounds of weight, tolerate dust in the indoor environment and extreme temperatures, and humidity in the outdoor environment.
