The City of Belton is Hiring a Recreation Seasonal Worker Near Belton, TX

JOB SUMMARY

Under the immediate direction of the Recreation Superintendent, the Seasonal Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance of the Harris Community Center facilities, grounds, and assist with special events.

SUPERVISION

RECEIVES direct supervision from the Recreation Superintendent.

EXERCISES no supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Safety

  • Operate tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner while utilizing the proper use of your PPE’s, (Personal Protective Equipment).

Splash Pad Maintenance

  • General cleaning and maintenance of the Splash Pad facility to include restrooms, pavilions, playground and water pad area. 
  • Inspect for damaged or broken features and report any items that need attention to your supervisor immediately.

Harris Community Center Grounds Maintenance

  • Maintain Harris Community Center grounds as needed, including pulling weeds, trimming brush, emptying trash cans, and other landscape maintenance duties as required.

Harris Community Center Building Maintenance

  • Sweeping, mopping, setting and resetting rooms, cleaning restrooms, cleaning and organizing storage space.

Special Events

  • Assist with special event set-up and operations.

Other Duties

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:

A High School diploma (or equivalent), or currently in high school is required.

NOTE: Applicants under the age of 18 years old must follow the guidelines below:

  • Drug Testing - a parent or legal guardian must sign an authorization form for drug testing, and they must accompany the applicant to the drug testing site and stay through the process.

  • Criminal Background Check – a parent or legal guardian must sign an authorization form allowing the City to conduct a criminal background check.

Knowledge of:

  • Operation of basic lawn care equipment.
  • Safety measures as it relates to hand tools and parks maintenance tools.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Withstand possible excessive heat temperature conditions as it relates to the local weather.
  • Work in variable weather conditions, including rain, wind, and fluctuating temperatures.
  • Communicate clear and concise oral instructions.
  • Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public.
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff.
  • Act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Use small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms.
  • With training, operate small power tools.
  • Climb up and down a ladder safely.
  • Must have personal transportation to and from work.
  • Be punctual and regular in attendance.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Texas driver’s license, with a good driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in an outdoor environment.
  • May be subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, entering closed spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting.
  • May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents, insects, and snakes.

Work hours available are approximately 20-40 hours per week, within a Monday to Friday workweek between the hours of 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, and possible weekends.
