The City of Rock Hill is Hiring a Part Time Transit Cleaner Near Rock Hill, SC

General Description:

The purpose of this position is to serve as the primary cleaner of the City of Rock Hills My Ride Transit system. This position is responsible for regularly cleaning all transit assets including vehicles, and facilities such as the Transit Hub and bus stop shelters. This position requires a thorough knowledge of environmental cleaning procedures, My Ride operations, My Ride safety requirements, timeliness, and reporting.This position works under direct supervisor according to set procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalentand some experience in the operation of medium-sized trucks.The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
Special Certifications and Licenses:

Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement and current DOT Medical Card required.


Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of public transit operations.
  • Knowledge of safe driving principles and an ability to detect hazards and to recommend corrective actions.
  • Ability to be a professional representative of Rock Hill Transit and its management.
  • Ability to work any shift assigned (including early mornings, days, nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including the ability to interpret technical information.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when appropriate in routine and non-routine circumstances, and in critical situations.
  • Ability to exercise discretion properly and responsibly notify the transit administrator when circumstances present the need.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with representatives of other organizations and the public.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and complete documents.
  • Ability to work safely at all times, participate in safety training courses, notify management of any safety concerns, and ability to recognize and notify management about any customer service issues that pose a safety risk.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain positive customer-focused relationships with co-workers, supervisors, agencies, the general public, and all other internal and external customers. Personally demonstrates appropriate customer service skills.
  • Work is performed onsite. The incumbent must be present at work to perform the essential functions of this job.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Completes training and development classes as provided by the Director/Supervisor.
  • Cleans exterior of transit vehicles. (CDL requirement to operate buses, will use a pressure washer, will maneuver vehicles in/out of wash bay and operate wash bay)
  • Cleans interior of transit vehicles utilizing appropriate cleaning equipment and techniques. Maintains cleanliness of all surfaces. Vacuums and cleans upholstery, ensuring a fresh and hygienic environment for passengers.
  • Cleans other areas such as bus shelters and transit stops as assigned.
  • Cleans office space at the Transit Hub including emptying trash, restocking supplies, and following proper procedures for lost and found items.
  • Coordinates with other City departments to ensure cleanliness at the Transit Hub.
  • Ensures bus parking bays are clean and straight. Restocks supplies as needed. Follows proper procedures for lost and found items found on buses.
  • Communicates professionally and effectively both (orally and in writing) and exercises independent judgment in routine and critical situations.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections of transport vehicles for mechanical and/or safety issues.
  • Adheres to established schedules to support transit operations.
  • Operates transit vehicles for the purpose of cleaning and vehicle testing in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Provides accurate and legible completion of reports, including accident/incident reports and daily cleaning reports, as required.
  • Maintains knowledge of and strict adherence to all Rock Hill Transit operating rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Clearly conduct radio communications with other Rock Hill Transit vehicles and dispatch.
  • Performs all other duties as may be required to meet organizational needs.
