The Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is Hiring a Manager of Food Services Near Orlando, FL

POSITION: Manager of Food Services
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
STATUS: Full Time-Salary
OVERVIEW:
The Manager of Food Services will oversee the daily operation of food services for a residential housing shelter, under the general guidance of the Director of Operations. The ideal candidate will have proven skills in leading crews responsible for preparing and serving three meals a day, seven days a week. Responsibilities include purchasing, meal planning, preparing within budget limitations, understanding federal food requirements for children, and providing direction to multiple volunteers. Success in this role requires knowledge of food health and safety, attention to detail, multitasking ability, and excellent customer service skills. This position demands a high degree of ethics, professionalism, adaptability, and leadership to uphold Coalition values and maintain an environment of dignity, respect, and cooperation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 years of experience in commercial food service, hospitality management, institutional food service, or a related field.
  • Experience in setting menus and maintaining a budget for food and labor.
  • A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. The applicant must have a good driving history and no record that would prevent agency auto insurance coverage while operating agency vehicles.
  • Must possess a state-recognized Food Handling Certification.
  • Good understanding of the homeless population.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Interview, hire, train, monitor, evaluate, and develop all Food Services Staff.
  • Provide direct supervision to all Food Services Staff.
  • Create and publish staff schedules in advance and delegate responsibilities and assignments.
  • Approve payroll and hold staff accountable for time worked vs. scheduled hours.
  • Fill in for staff when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of food donations and supplies.
  • Manage inventory of food and beverage supplies, order needed inventory, and rotate stock.
  • Purchase and source food items and supplies to ensure the department is adequately prepared to serve all customers.
  • Plan balanced and nutritional menus. Oversee the budgeting process for Kitchen operations, ensuring that expenses stay within their respective budgets for food, supplies, and labor costs.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
  • Regularly monitor food service areas to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and safe food storage.
  • Regularly monitor food being served to meet standards of quality and presentation.
  • Regularly monitor food being served to include components for balanced nutrition and health.
  • Ensure all Food Service Staff are trained and practice safe serving and food handling protocols.
  • Maintain a facilities cleaning schedule to ensure all food service equipment, surfaces, and areas within the department are clean.
  • Prepare and conduct performance reviews of those supervised.
  • Maintain compliance with Health Department regulations and take corrective actions if needed.
  • Complete and submit reports accurately and timely.
  • Ensure compliance with Veterans' Contracted Emergency Services dietary requirements, including snacks, meals, and food allergies.
  • Ensure compliance with the Homeless Children Nutrition Program (HCNP) dietary requirements, including balanced meals, meal components, and food allergies.
  • Establish standards for staff performance and maintain a consistent level of services provided to shelter guests.
  • Provide ongoing training and development for staff that promotes cleanliness, food quality, donor relations, customer service, and safety, emphasizing high-quality services within a housing-focused shelter.
  • Promote positive experiences for shelter guests while dining or volunteering in food services.
  • Promote positive and meaningful experiences for volunteers and donors.
  • Address conflicts and complaints quickly and consistently.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to budget, plan, and utilize resources wisely.
  • Good working relationships with departments, volunteer groups, donors, and vendors.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Ability to prepare, cook, and serve quality food.
  • Ability to teach staff how to prepare, cook, and serve quality food.
  • Ability to provide leadership and manage staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Ability to resolve personnel and customer-related issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to employ organizational skills effectively.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs and physically perform all duties of food service when filling in for coverage.
  • Familiar with Ansul Fire Suppression systems and all grades of Fire Extinguishers.
  • Working knowledge of Kitchen Safety.
  • Good judgment and solid decision-making ability.
  • Ability to represent the organization in a positive and professional manner.
