Position Title: Career Renewal Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation (TVR) Counselor
Department: Social Services-Career Renewal TVR Program
Compensation: $18.00-$20.00/DOE; Grant Funded
As a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor within the Career Renewal Vocational Rehabilitation Program, you will play a crucial role in assisting individuals with diagnosed disabilities from American Indian communities in overcoming barriers to employment. You will work to assess vocational strengths, interests, and barriers, and develop personalized plans to facilitate successful integration into the workforce.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for working with Consumers throughout entire TVR process including: intake, eligibility determination, Individualized Plan for Employment development, and assisting with follow through of all activities and goals.
  • Knowledge of various disabilities.
  • Knowledge of acts, laws, regulations and policies as they apply to Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation and individuals with disabilities.
  • Able to demonstrate sound ethics in every aspect of position.
  • Must be mature individual, with good work ethics a priority.
  • Able to write concisely, including employment plans, case notes, and reports.
  • Maintain regular contact with all Consumers on caseload.
  • Able to effectively manage a caseload of up to 50 Consumers.
  • Participate in regular case staffing with TVR Program Manager and other TVR Counselors.
  • Submit financial requests to TVR Program Manager on behalf of consumers, including Check and Purchase Order requests.
  • Able to successfully speak at public events and attend/assist in planning program events.
  • Able to travel at minimum twice per year to attend recommended trainings/conferences.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date Consumer case files, both hard files and in applicable software.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Confidentiality policy at all times.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Social Media policy at all times.
  • Able to work in a team environment and be a team player.
  • Open to attending courses to obtain certification in TVR Counseling (if needed).
  • Other related duties as assigned
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of consumers' vocational strengths, limitations, and barriers to employment.
  • Collaborate to develop individualized vocational rehabilitation plans, setting realistic employment goals and outlining necessary steps for achieving them.
  • Provide vocational counseling and guidance to support consumers in navigating educational and training programs, job searches, and workplace accommodations.
  • Advocate for consumers' rights and access to resources, including assistive technologies, adaptive equipment, and vocational training programs.
  • Coordinate with community resources, educational institutions, employers, and other service providers to facilitate consumers' access to employment opportunities and supportive services.
  • Monitor consumers' progress toward employment goals, providing ongoing support, guidance, and adjustment of rehabilitation plans as needed.
  • Communicating or posting information or content on the Internet or using any social media platforms that adversely affects your job performance, the performance of co-workers, or otherwise adversely affects members, customers, or the Tribe and its administration negatively will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly within American Indian communities, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of vocational assessment tools, counseling techniques, and disability rights legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trust with consumers from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility, creativity, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and promoting the empowerment and self-determination of individuals with disabilities.

Total Compensation: $48,859.98-$67,251.86 annually. Total compensation is an estimate based upon base compensation, median retirement fund contributions, and current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates (including medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability, and leave). The actual total will vary depending upon the employee’s enrollment choices.
