Job Title: Donor Relations Director
Reports to: Executive Director
Position Status: Full-time (35 hours a week), Non-Exempt
Location: On Site
Position Summary
The Donor Relations Director is responsible for the development and execution of cultivation activities that contribute to the long-term growth of the Community Foundation of Shelby County. This position is about helping people give to better the community and, as the go-to person to assist with giving, is key to bringing awareness of Community Foundation services and opportunities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
· The primary focus is to identify and develop relationships with prospective donors.
· Assist donors with establishing and growing a fund, from inspiration to fund agreement stages.
· Maintain strong relationships with fund donors through continued contact and customer service.
· Pursue and cultivate relationships with professional advisors regarding charitable giving and services offered through the foundation to assist them with their clients’ giving.
· Build awareness of the Community Foundation through print and digital publications and social media.
· Maintain an awareness of community happenings, issues and culture.
· Represent the Foundation at community, donor, professional advisor and grantee functions, some of which may be held after normal business hours.
Essential Skills and Experience
· A Bachelor’s degree preferred.
· A minimum of 5 years of experience cultivating long-term customer/client/donor relationships.
· Ability to communicate effectively at a professional level, both orally and in writing.
· Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and provide excellent customer service to existing and prospective donors, community leaders, professional advisors and representatives from non-profit organizations.
· A willingness to learn about giving vehicles and laws that impact nonprofits and individuals.
· Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact successfully with individuals having diversity in a variety of areas including age, ethnicity and socio-economic background.
· Maintain regular working hours with some flexibility.
· Willing to be part of a team that collaborates, assists one another and supports the positive culture of the Community Foundation.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and a willingness to learn industry-specific software.
