The County of Fresno is Hiring a COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER SPECIALIST Near Fresno, CA

Position Description DEPARTMENTAL PROMOTIONAL APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE ONLY This recruitment is a Departmental Promotional opportunity and is limited to current Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Office employees occupying a permanent position who meet the minimum qualifications and filing requirements specified in this announcement ; permanent status is not required. Extra-help employees are not eligible .
The Fresno County Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Office is offering rewarding and challenging promotional opportunities for Communications Dispatcher Specialist. Communications Dispatcher Specialist is responsible for training new dispatchers and may act in a lead capacity which includes assigning, reviewing, and coordinating the work of lower-level staff. The Communications Dispatcher classification series is utilized in the communication center of the Sheriff-Coroner-Public Administrator's Office. Incumbents of this classification series are primarily oriented to receiving and responding to emergency calls by telephone or radio; keying data such as name, address and nature of the emergency into a computer; dispatching law enforcement personnel; referring call or caller according to policy and procedure; and monitoring the location and activity of field units at all times.
As a condition of employment candidates must undergo and pass a thorough and detailed personal background investigation, medical, and polygraph or Computer Voice Stress Analysis examination. These investigations include employment and credit histories, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified. Background materials for failed candidates are retained for three years.APPLICANTS MUST BE WILLING TO WORK SHIFTS AS ASSIGNED INCLUDING NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS. Minimum Qualifications OPTION 1Education : Completion of thirty (30) semester units of course work that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.
Experience : Three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Communications Dispatcher with the County of Fresno.
Option 2Experience : One (1) year of full-time, paid work experience obtaining information via telecommunications equipment while using a computer to enter data and process information.
AND
Three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Communications Dispatcher with the County of Fresno.
Option 3Certificate : Completion of a Public Safety Dispatcher's Basic Course certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Experience : Three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience equivalent to that gained as a Communications Dispatcher with the County of Fresno.
In addition to the options listed above, the following is also required:
Other : Ability to type thirty-give (35) net words per minute.

Selection ProcessApplicants meeting the Minimum Qualifications and filing requirements may be scheduled for one of the processes below:
  • Online Examination- The examination for Communications Dispatcher Specialist may be offered in an online format. Please indicate on the supplemental questionnaire if you have the ability to complete an online examination.
  • Certify without Examination - In instances where the number of eligible candidates is less than or equal to the number of qualified applicants the Department is entitled to receive under Personnel Rule 4212, the competitive examination process will be waived and the names will be certified without an examination.
Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to 6 months) and will be certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
