OVERVIEW: D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (“DESRI”) seeks a resourceful individual to join its strategy team as an associate. The associate will help augment investing and business development efforts in the renewable energy space. DESRI is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 10 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 70 renewable energy projects in 24 states. The role offers the opportunity to join a collegial, dynamic, and inclusive working environment as part of a highly skilled team. WHAT YOU’LL DO DAY-TO-DAY: You’ll be responsible for building and reviewing financial models to support management investment decisions for mergers and acquisitions or power market origination, with a focus on modeling project returns, optimizing capital structure, identifying risks and potential upside, and presenting analytical findings in a clear and concise manner. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for leading due diligence and managing third-party deliverables through deal processes. You’ll also support transaction leads on negotiating definitive documentation for M&A, PPA origination, asset dispositions, or bespoke financing products across both new projects and DESRI’s existing portfolio of projects in development, under construction, or in operation. WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least two to five years of experience, including experience in financial modeling and project finance transactions.
A record of academic and professional achievement, well-developed communication skills, the ability to collaborate well with a small team, proven organizational acumen when working on multiple projects, and a high level of motivation and initiative are all vital to this role.
Experience in the renewable energy space is preferred.
The expected annual base salary for this position is $110,000 to $135,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits, including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401k contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
