About You and This Role:

Dow is seeking a Director of Risk Management to join a global Project Controls team in support of our Capital Projects organization. This role is responsible for setting the standard for Risk Management on all Capital Projects executed globally and will require organizational, interpersonal, and executive level interaction. The candidate will have a deep-seated knowledge in the development of a multi-step framework for how risk will be identified, documented, quantified, and managed throughout the Dow Global Project Methodology (GPM) project execution process by moving our Capital Projects team to a deeper level of risk identification, quantification, management, and analysis.

The individual who is selected to fill this role shall possess an ability to collaborate across many organizations simultaneously and quickly synthesize technical, financial, and capital project information to identify the short and long-term risk/opportunities. This position is part of the Global Capital Projects Organization and reports to the Global Project Controls Director. The role will be to collaborate with all Capital Project functions including Business and Engineering Leaders as well as, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning leaders regardless of project size, scope, or location.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a governance & risk culture and effectively communicate status and provide risk reporting to senior management and other key stakeholders.
  • Institute a plan of Risk Management across all functions that execute and lead our global capital project portfolio.
  • Lead Risk Assessment efforts during the business development stage, Front End Loading (FEL), Design & Construction, and distill key risk areas for control.
  • Lead a network of focal points to and develop capabilities within to assist projects in the identification, mitigation, and quantification of project execution risks.
  • Facilitate risk workshops to assess changes and identify activities, which would provide reasonable assurance that the strategic project risks are identified, measured, and managed, including validation of any assumptions and interpretations. Help think about recommendations and develop risk mitigation plans.
  • Ability to lead Risk Assessment efforts during the business development stage, Front End Loading (FEL), Design & Construction, and distill key risk areas for control.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Project Risk Management Strategy and Risk Governance, including Risk Register.
  • Utilize risk management tools, both current and new, to perform cost and schedule analysis.
  • Maintain a current and detailed knowledge of the key projects being executed within the Capital Projects portfolio and provide analysis of common risk/opportunities being experienced. Use analytical knowledge to provide feedback annually concerning risk trends, risk experienced by business unit, portfolio, etc.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure they are aware of potential changes and their implications for strategy and operations.
  • Lead the development and implementation of improved risk metrics and visualization dashboards.
  • Work as a member of the Project Controls, Capital Projects Team, advising our stakeholders in identifying areas of risk and improvement opportunities for review and action.
  • Develop and administrate a facilitation strategy to help projects (project engineer and other members of the project steering team) identify and manage the right risks for projects.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree.
  • A minimum of 14 years of experience in the project execution of petrochemical/chemical oil & gas or mining industries or related industries.
  • A minimum of 7years of leading a Risk Group/Risk Function on Major Capital Projects.
  • Must have Technical Experience conducting Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis across a wide spectrum of project types.
  • Must be willing and able to meet all applicable requirements related to business travel.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Prefer Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in the following disciplines of Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Science, Business Intelligence is preferred.

Additional Note: This position does not offer domestic relocation.
