The Family Counseling Center is Hiring a Drop-In Counselor Near Gloversville, NY

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled counselor to join our team at the outpatient mental health drop-in center. As a counselor, you will provide crisis intervention and solution-focused brief therapy to individuals accessing our services. You will play a pivotal role in offering immediate support to individuals experiencing mental health crises, as well as facilitating brief therapeutic interventions aimed at empowering clients to develop coping strategies and achieve their goals.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 10 am-6 pm | Friday 9 am-5 pm - No Weekends

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 per hour

Education: Bachelor's (Required)

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Human Services related as deemed appropriate by the Agency.
  • Experience working in a mental health setting, preferably in crisis intervention and brief therapy.
  • Strong crisis management skills and ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Knowledge of solution-focused brief therapy techniques and evidence-based interventions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport and engage with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.
  • Commitment to cultural humility, trauma-informed care, and ethical practice.
  • Must be energetic, motivated, self-sufficient, creative, and reliable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google and familiar with electronic health records
  • Willingness to follow the clinic’s standards of practice and standards of care
  • Ability to successfully pass the Medicaid exclusion screening and background check
  • Demonstrable ability to connect with and provide support to a diverse client population

Essential Functions

Crisis Intervention:

  • Provide immediate support and intervention to individuals experiencing mental health crises, including but not limited to suicidal ideation, self-harm, and acute distress.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to determine the level of risk and appropriate intervention strategies.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive care and safety planning for clients in crisis.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy:

  • Conduct solution-focused brief therapy sessions with clients to identify strengths, resources, and goals.
  • Utilize evidence-based therapeutic techniques to help clients develop practical solutions to their immediate challenges.
  • Empower clients to enhance their problem-solving skills and resilience through brief therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide assessment, evaluation, and short-term therapeutic support to clients seeking behavioral health services.
  • Provide a bridge of short-term support while waiting for long-term assignment.
  • Set appropriate boundaries with clients, provides effective short-term interventions and coordinates care with other providers[MC1] [TH2] .

Individual Counseling:

  • Provide individual counseling sessions to clients accessing the drop-in center, focusing on addressing specific mental health concerns and promoting well-being.
  • Utilize a person-centered approach to establish rapport, build trust, and create a supportive therapeutic relationship with clients.
  • Assist clients in exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and facilitate the development of coping strategies and self-care practices.

Case Management and Referral:

  • Collaborate with community resources and service providers to coordinate referrals and access additional support services for clients as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client interactions, assessments, and treatment plans in compliance with organizational policies and legal requirements.

Other:

  • Administer social determinants of needs assessment and make appropriate linkage to identified needs
  • Provide client-centered, trauma-informed mental health services to our community population within the quality and regulatory guidelines of the Office of Mental Health.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team planning; clinical supervision and assistance with intake.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Agency requirements, including progress notes, treatment plans, discharge paperwork, and assessments.
  • Coordinate care with other service providers as necessary to enhance the effectiveness of client care.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards of human service professionals regarding respect for the individual and confidentiality.
  • Attend regularly scheduled supervision, Doctors Meetings, and Clinical Meetings.
  • Participate in staff development activities to support professional growth.
  • Follows agency Compliance Plan and Standards of Conduct
  • Support and participate in the agency’s Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned
