Job Purpose: 

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will implement and execute strategies and functions of the communications team to support the goals of the organization including fundraising, outreach, food drives, volunteer recruitment, donor recognition and more. This position will be the primary strategist of the social media presence for the organization including content creation and scheduling. This position will write, create and schedule newsletters, digital content, and other communications to help tell the story of the organization and their partners. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will preserve the branding, voice and direction for the organization making sure that standards are integrated throughout all communications. This position will help create and provide approved collateral for other departments and team members throughout the organization to help maintain brand consistency through all outward facing communications. This person will develop press releases for the organization. 

This position is skilled at communications, writing, editing, digital strategies and collateral design/production. This position coordinates with all other key members of the Food Bank team and supports other members of the Marketing department. 

Requirements

Special Conditions or Certifications of Employment:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent years of experience in marketing, public relations or communications fields.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 2 years of Marketing/Public relations experience.
  • 1-year non-profit experience. 

Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support the department and organization through assisting with the development of collateral, signage, press releases, business cards, nametags and other branded materials.
  • Create and implement social media content and digital advertising content as part of a larger digital strategy for the organization. 
  • Conduct updates on website, DAK board and other communication platforms. 
  • Manage and execute marketing and publicity campaigns and activities for Food Bank community programs, special events, and other news announcements, at the direction of the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Help to ensure communications strategies are in alignment with marketing and fundraising efforts
  • Foster positive press relations throughout FBNN service area
  • Occasionally act as agency spokesperson, including after-hours “on call” capabilities as needed. 
  • Manage efforts with key staff to enhance the Food Bank's marketing and public relations efforts and outreach to the community with local business and social service organizations, Food Bank partner agencies and professional organizations. 
  • Ensure that brand standards and communication directives are followed and consistent in preparation of all materials and communications. 
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all donor records, transactions, data, research and communications, respecting the anonymity of each donor’s identity, as directed by the donor and department policy.
  • Assist with special events, food drives, volunteer events, and other opportunities to ensure that they are in line with objectives of organization.

  • Proactive and self-starter attitude – ability to work independently in a fast-paced and agile environment is a benefit

  • Demonstrated track record in managing tasks and/or small projects 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work on multiple teams and take direction from multiple project managers, in multiple geographic locations 
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in using Microsoft Professional Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Internet search engines and databases.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position does not supervise any team members.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands

  • The primary environment for this role is a bright, well lit, modern facility.
  • The primary functions of this role are administrative in nature. 
  • Occasional meetings, events, food drives and programs occur offsite.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. 
  • Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
  • This position requires flexibility and hours vary seasonally.

  • Occasional Local travel
