The Gathering Place is Hiring a 24-25 Assistant Principal Near San Antonio, TX

School Leadership Responsibilities

  • Support the mission and design principles of The Gathering Place (TGP). 
  • Embody TGP Collective norms.
  • Serve on the School Leadership Team and support the Principal in overseeing and leading the TGP.
  • Manage and support your direct reports by modeling servant leadership.
  • Embrace a culture of feedback to continue growing in skill in supporting children, staff, and caregivers. 
  • Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with students and families.
  • Support with the completion of administrative tasks which may include: 
    • Supporting the meeting of initiatives, programs, priorities set forth by the Principal; supporting the implementation of arrival & dismissal systems; supporting the editing of narratives; supporting overseeing staff completion of tasks, compliance items, surveys, etc; preparing for campus showcases and associated duties; supporting the setting and maintaining of school culture, etc. This is not an exhaustive list and is instead meant to delineate some of the responsibilities that go into being a School Leader. 
    • Support the School Leadership team in helping staff learn and embody the TGP mission, vision, design principles, and norms which includes both serving as an exemplar and helping others as they engage in their own learning / unlearning journeys.
  • Collaborate with teachers, members of the TGP Collective, TGP caregivers, community members, and School Leaders.
  • Attend critical school events such as Professional Development Days, school events for students, and school events for caregivers and/or community members.

Assistant Principal Responsibilities

  • Management of Teachers and Staff
    • Directly manage a team of teachers and staff.
    • Support teachers with foundational teaching responsibilities, including teaching best practices, classroom management, and tier-one behavior interventions and systems.
    • Regularly observe and provide real-time feedback for teachers in their classrooms or in debriefs post-observation.
    • Oversee all direct reports meeting all standards of professionalism, including on-time arrival to work, complying with PTO guidelines, submission deadlines, operational responsibilities, and more.
    • Conduct two performance evaluations per year for all direct reports.
    • Oversee teacher development of student narratives and provide edits.
    • Oversee all deadlines related to data collection, assessments, and grades.
    • Run 1:1 check-ins held on a regular basis with managed staff.
    • Monitor and respond to all PTO for staff on your caseload.
    • Ensure teachers follow assigned scope and sequences, and schedules of assessment.
    • Ensure teachers follow the assigned school schedule.
  • School-wide Systems & Initiatives
    • Serve as the behavior lead on campus by supporting and leading the creation and implementation of behavior support plans/systems and overseeing the implementation of school-wide MTSS systems.
    • Support and provide interventions as needed to retain your assigned caseload of teachers and support with school-wide initiatives related to staff retention.
    • Contribute to staff retention.
    • Participate in and/or lead school committees and working groups as needed. Committees may meet before or after school or during school hours. 
    • Work collaboratively with the Student Support Team to ensure the individual needs of children are represented and met inside of classrooms.
    • Support initiatives related to student retention.
    • Oversee lunch norms and behavior.
    • Oversee recess systems.
    • Oversee all campus-wide transitions.
    • Participate in school-wide data analysis and oversight of progress against school-wide goals.
    • Oversee tutoring, rostering, and implementation of curriculum.
    • Support with classwide resets.
    • Support with in-the-moment coverage of classes related to staff absences.
    • Support with all school-wide testing systems.
    • Support with STAAR testing systems for 3rd- 6th-grade teachers.
    • Participate on the hiring committee and participate in various stages of the interview process with prospective candidates.
    • Play a prominent role in showcase preparation to ensure that showcases are high quality, demonstrating an ethic of excellence, care, and deep learning by supporting teachers throughout planning, execution, and preparation in the months leading up to showcases.
  • Professional Development
    • Design and lead professional development related to teaching best practices, classroom management, and tier-one behavior interventions and systems.
    • Design and lead professional development or Staff Meetings related to campus logistics and initiatives. 
    • Facilitate professional learning communities and trainings as needed.
    • Oversee setup and teardown requirements of spaces used for professional development.
  • Assisting the Principal
    • Assist the Principal with duties as needed based on the Principal's responsibilities.

All-School Staff Responsibilities

  • Meet professional obligations, including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines, among all other policies outlined in the Staff Handbook. 
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other required documents.

Additional Details

  • This is a full-time, 10-month exempt position.
  • 100% Employer paid Life Insurance
  • The Gathering Place pays into TRS (Teacher Retirement System of Texas).
  • This role has access to high-quality health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Tax-free FSA account with an employer contribution of $500 if an employee enrolls in the plan.
  • 13 PTO days per year (this includes sick, personal, bereavement, religious, vacation, and any other days needed off from work)
  • This role may be asked to serve on campus or school committees.
  • The workday is 7:15 - 4:00 pm. Some evening events will be required such as exhibitions of learning (showcases) or school events.
  • There will be one, one-hour staff meeting after school from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM every two weeks required for this role.
  • There are 14 days of required summer professional development for new employees in July OR 8 days of professional development for returning staff in August, and several professional development days built into the calendar throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Must have at least three years of teaching experience
