The Gazette is Hiring a Budget Accountant Near Colorado, CO

This position is hybrid with an anticipated work schedule of Monday-Friday with three days on-site and two days working remote.

A pivotal member of the Finance team working directly with the VP of Finance to manage and report financial data for the organization. Primary responsibility is to prepare financial reports and documentation while examining and analyzing financial data and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures. This position will be an integral member of the Finance team tracking monthly financial and operational activity as it relates to budget and prior period, formulating monthly flash forecasts, and assisting with budget development and tracking. This position will learn the operations; business and industry well enough to apply operational budget modeling, cost/benefit productivity, and economic factors to financial reporting and analysis. Position will track and review operational KPIs to determine appropriate budget to operational alignment. Position will assist and support the VP of Finance as needed.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Review expense and revenue transactions
  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile transactions.
  • Comply with accounting principles and ensure accounting controls are met.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Timely compilation of reporting on actual performance against budget, forecast and/or prior year.
  • Update data in business models for use in analysis and forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly forecasts based on operational and business drivers and economic indicators.
  • Identify and interpret trends in financial and operational reports.
  • Prepares flash/forecast reports for corporate and internal leadership team.
  • Provide support to leadership team through performance reporting, ad hoc analyses, and reconciliation of reports.
  • Help prepare and compile the consolidated company’s annual budget.
  • Help build financial models based on operational proposals -new initiatives and potential business design changes.
  • Actively participate in teamwork in your everyday work and/or on special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience with accounting software and data entry.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting rules and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of spreadsheets.
  • Ability to understand basic and complex financial concepts.
  • Willingness to work with and learn other business systems and applications.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate in a team setting and effectively communicate.
  • Ability to generate written and verbal executive-ready analyses and reports.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects/deadlines at the same time.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data from multiple sources.
  • Ability to approach analyses from both financial and operational perspectives.
  • Analyze and assess operational workflows to accurately model and forecast outcomes.
  • Take initiative to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and oral.
  • Flexibility to react to change productively.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Unquestionable ethics and a high level of discretion, ensuring that company financial information is kept confidentially at all times.

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a finance or accounting emphasis
  • 3-5 years previous finance and/or accounting experience
  • Minimum two years of modeling and data analysis experience
  • Minimum two years of budgeting experience
