Reports to: Director of Extended Day

Primary Responsibilities: Plan and implement a daily art project in K-4 Hub art room, supervise student use of supplies with appropriate support and intervention. Promote and facilitate compliance with Hamlin health and safety guidelines.

Classification: Part-time/Non-exempt

Work Schedule: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 2:00-6:00 p.m., Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00-6:00 p.m during the academic year. Optional hours available for substitute teaching during the school day

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

With Art Room:

• Prepare Hub lounge and art rooms with supplies and equipment for daily programming.
• Manage art supply storage, supply levels, and order/shop for necessary supplies.
• Prepare & lead students in daily art activities.
• Create a weekly curriculum guide.

With Hub:

• Be a Hub program leader: provide general supervision of K-4 students in the art room and on the yard. 

Hub is our after school program for K-4th grade students.

• Supervise students in indoor and outdoor play spaces, work proactively with students assisting individual and group needs. 
• Manage classroom environment and support conflict resolution as needed.
• Assist with snack and general daily programming goals. 
• Interact with families during student pick-up times.
• Maintain a clean and organized working environment.

With Extended Day:

• Communicate, plan with, and support the Extended Day team as needed.
• Assist in planning for special events and camps. 
• Meet periodically with supervisor to evaluate program and each other. 
• Work collaboratively to create program themes and concepts.
• Assist in mentoring and supervising young alums (high school-age employees).

With Hamlin:

• Be an advocate for the goals of the after school program and the school.
• Model and promote the Hamlin Creed: Compassion, Courage, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility.
• Create an environment of balance: structured and unstructured choices, work and play.

Qualifications:

• Working towards or possesses a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Passion for and prior experience working with children.
• Desire and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. 
• Enthusiasm, creativity, warmth, patience, and flexibility.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with staff, students, and parents.
• Ability to problem-solve and resolve conflicts.

Work authorization requirements:

• Clear the Department of Justice background screening (Livescan)
• Authorized to work in the United States (I-9)
• Provide health (TB) clearance (update every 4 years)
• Up-to-date with covid-19 vaccinations and a commitment to updates as boosters roll out
