The Hartford is seeking a VP, Lead HR Business Partner (HRBP) role supporting our Middle and Large Commercial business and the Underwriting Field Organization. The VP, Lead HRBP, MLC, will lead significant positive change and strategically partner with the businesses to ensure that their human capital initiatives will support their business strategies and drive the organization to increased effectiveness. The VP, Lead HRBP, MLC, will be engaged with the businesses, be both proactive and responsive, and have a passion for excellence. The location of this role is flexible; ideally the VP, Lead HRBP would be located in Chicago, IL, Charlotte, NC, Dallas, TX, New York City, or Hartford, CT. This role is hybrid role, with three days a week in the office (Tuesday-Thursday). Domestic travel is required for this role for the first 3-6 months (~50%). This role will report to the Head of HR for Commercial Lines.
Responsibilities:
  • Partner closely with key business leaders to formulate their human resources strategy and strategic planning. As an outcome of this process, the Lead HRBP will partner with the business to formulate appropriate talent and organizational strategies that support business goals.
  • Work with key business leaders and the talent COE to develop and implement Diversity Equity, and Inclusion plans.
  • Develop effective leadership within the organization. This may include working with leaders to create their leadership agenda, developing a highly effective leadership team, on-boarding newly hired or promoted senior leaders and developing bench strength for succession and talent management.
  • Partner with Middle and Large Commercial business leaders to create high performing organizations through a focus on employee engagement, management of performance and team effectiveness. Ensure that the organization has the appropriate mix of talent to meet current and future business or functional needs.
  • Leverage HR data and analytics resources to effectively inform proactive and value-added business strategy re: emerging trends in hiring, engaging, and retaining talent.
  • Support, advocate and promote the principles, values, and behaviors of a world class HR organization. HR leadership responsibilities include supporting HR initiatives, sharing successes and failures and developing HR talent bench strength.
  • Directly manage an HRBP team with dedicated COE resources in compensation and talent acquisition. Provide leadership and consulting support to business unit management on matters of goal setting, development, and strategic implementation in support of achieving corporate objectives and business growth, as well as on the human capital strategies necessary for them to achieve their goals and objectives.
  • Working with COE partners, the Lead HRBP is responsible for the customization, successful application and implementation of the processes, frameworks, and tools in support of the business needs in the areas of staffing, career and leadership development, compensation, performance management, employee development and talent management.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 18 years of experience as a human resources business partner in a large corporate setting. Insurance industry and/or financial services experience preferred experience supporting large, complex P&L organizations required.
  • Demonstrated consultative skills with proven ability to develop fact-based business cases across multiple complex scenarios; experience working directly with senior business leaders and their teams to drive a strategic business agenda, and ensuring the human resource initiatives are in full alignment.
  • Proven experience and depth in talent management and talent development; knowledge of organizational development techniques and performance management.
  • Experience leading organizations through change management; proven ability to drive business toward Diversity Equity, and Inclusion goals.
  • Experience and credibility as a leader in an environment with the ability to influence and build relationships. Be a scholar of he business and able and willing to embed in the business, with agents, brokers, and functional partners.
  • Demonstrated success coaching and developing HR professionals with varying levels of experience and managing and motivating teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide practical, solution-driven initiatives and human resource processes that quickly add value to the business; experience leveraging data to help inform decisions and strategies.
  • Credibility as a trusted advisor, confidant and executive coach to senior management.
  • Strong business acumen, project management skills, and a results orientation.
  • An effective communicator with a clear and concise style. Able to effectively communicate and collaborate both the with the business and HR peers and COE’s.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
CompensationThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$200,240 - $300,360
