The Hawk Group is Hiring an Operations Mechanical Discipline Engineer Near Anchorage, AK

Job Summary

The Operations Mechanical Discipline Engineer ensures that mechanical designs for Operations are met, and that the design is in accordance with AK BU Specifications and in compliance with regulatory and Company standards. This role will guide designs from engineering through construction and commissioning phases of work to ensure safety in design and operability.

Responsibilities

  • Support Client health, safety and environmental (HSE) goals – both personal and process safety.
  • Coordinate closely with Company engineers and operations/maintenance technicians supporting field activities and operations managed projects to ensure consistency across mechanical designs.
  • Guide the development of the mechanical design premises to ensure safety in design, operability and inclusion of commonality and synergies of existing facilities modifications and new facilities and associated modifications.
  • Review engineering drawings and relevant calculations and documents prepared by the engineering contractor, facility engineers or designers.
  • Participate in evaluation of quotes for piping components, static mechanical equipment, HVAC equipment, major equipment and utility systems.
  • Review damage/defects/corrosion in mechanical equipment and assess operational risk and provide repair recommendations / strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure inter-discipline coherence.
  • Act as a liaison between the engineering contractor and Operations/Maintenance teams, optimizing cost, schedule, operability, and maintainability for project success.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and communicate with regulatory bodies/teams as necessary for project scopes.
  • Work collaboratively with AK BU Technical Authorities to ensure adherence to AK BU Specifications and compliance with regulatory and Company standards.
  • Frame specifications and criteria deviations and seek TA approval on behalf of the work.
  • Provide input into specification and criteria updates.
  • Engage in the materials procurement process, providing review and approval of vendor proposals and evaluating any deviations from the approval manufacturers list.
  • Provide preliminary HVAC modifications scope needed for building occupancy and permitting changes.
  • Participate in AK BU Mechanical Engineering collaboration activities including weekly collaboration meetings and training and development activities.
  • Participate in Knowledge Sharing throughout the BU and company via NoE participation.
  • Stay abreast of opportunities around the company and industry that may be leveraging for Company and Company developments.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years Mechanical Engineering experience in the Oil and Gas (O&G) Industry
  • 3 years in HVAC engineering and design
  • Intermediate knowledge of arctic environment HVAC design, oil and gas HVAC design, and infrastructure mechanical equipment / plumbing
  • Understanding of operational and maintenance requirements of upstream oil and gas processing facilities
  • In depth knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards including API tank codes (650 & 653); ASME Pressure vessel code for materials (II), NDE (V), vessel design (VIII) and welding (IX); ASME B31.3, 31.4, and 31.8; API 570 piping codes; HVAC equipment and ASHRAE codes; ADEC, and SPCC regulations
  • Experience with in-service welding of piping/pipelines
  • Basic knowledge pipe vibration modes and repairs
  • Experience with assessing defects/corrosion/mechanical damage in piping and assessing operational risk and developing repair plans
  • Available to be on-call over weekends to provide field engineering support (periodic basis)
  • Able to travel to the north slope up to 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years project brownfield and greenfield Mechanical Engineering experience in the Oil and Gas (O&G) Industry
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Mechanical Engineer License in Alaska
  • Experience with software such as SolidWorks, AutoPipe, Compress
