BASIC FUNCTION
Responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Director to ensure that our facility provides the highest quality of resident care.
Essential Functions
  • Coordination of all residents care to include activities as scheduled and personal care.
  • Gives and adjusts assignments to the residents care assistants.
  • Maintains nursing service and resident care in accordance with the standards of resident care as set forth in the Resident Care Policies and Nursing Procedures’ Manuals under the guidance of Director.
  • Assess residents to the ability of self medication and administers medication to those only who cannot.
  • Takes physician’s orders and maintains adequate records.
  • Carries out all routine nursing procedures and supervises all nursing personnel.
  • Acts on behalf of Director in the ALF when Director is not available.
  • Is responsible for keeping drug room and medication cart neat, clean, and in order.
  • Admits and orients new residents admitted.
  • Sends diet orders and changes to the dietary department.Orders meals to be sent to residents room due to illness.
  • Assembles resident’s charts and checks that all required forms are completed and/or sent for completion when necessary, I.E. HRS forms . Make notation on outside of chart of forms in process.
  • Transcribes physicians’ orders.
  • Performs charting duties. Maintains controlled substance records and has the responsibility for narcotics and other drugs which are signed out.
  • Discharges or transfer residents, arranges for the transfer and completes the required forms; to include communication forms to be given to the receptionist and all department managers to ensure accuracy of census report daily.
  • Gives emergency treatment when required and notifies the physician of the emergency.
  • Completes incident/accidentreport and follows facility policy and procedure. Incident/accident reports to be turned in to Director as they occur.
  • Notifies physician and responsible party of changes in resident’s condition, and any unusual observations. Contact resident or responsible party of need for services that must be obtained by home health agency. Director to be notified of all changes.
  • Follows daily facility routine of assigned tasks.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of appointments and arrangements made for transportation of residents for diagnostic, therapeutic, dental, or medical services with the Social Director. Oversees that the resident is escorted to transportation or transfer vehicle.
  • Interview, assess, and complete pre-admission forms of inquiries presented by marketing department. Periodically reassess in-house residents to determine proper placement, and reviews assessments with Director.
  • Knows general whereabouts of all residents.
  • Hire new staff through interview and reference checks.
  • Discipline and terminate nursing staff when necessary using appropriate disciplinary forms.
  • Praise nursing staff for job well done.
  • Prepare work schedule for nursing staff, coordinate staffing and scheduling of licensed and non-professional nursing staff.
  • Attend, organize, and conduct quarterly resident assessment meetings with Director.
  • Review and evaluate nursing systems to determine effectiveness. Conduct at a minimum monthly meetings with nursing staff to be informative and increase team building.
  • Develop new systems when necessary, obtaining guidance from Director.
  • Organize and conduct nursing in-service and department organizational meeting quarterly.
  • Update nursing logs.
  • Assuring Resident Safety
EXPOSURE RISK
The Director of Resident Services is at high risk for exposure to blood and body fluids.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives administ rative supervision from the Facility Director Receives medical supervis ion from the Medical Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Nursing Staff
EDUCATION
  • Graduate of Accredited Nursing Program.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital or other related medical facility.
  • Prior ALF experience preferable.
  • Will maintain a current license to practice professional nursing.
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
