About The Helix School 

The Helix School (THS) serves children, with mild to moderate autism, between the ages of 5 and 22 living throughout the Bay Area. The school’s model and mission are based on providing an education that both nurtures and develops students’ capabilities through an evidence-based, integrated curriculum tailored to support a child’s developmental level, sensory processing differences, and emotional regulatory needs. The talented staff consists of educators, occupational, speech and behavioral therapists, and mental health professionals. Position

The Therapist/Counselor/Psychologist will partner closely with our Clinical Director, behavior intervention specialists, school leaders, teachers and program specialists to conduct mental health assessments, provide direct counseling services as written in the student's IEP, and ongoing support with implementation, create/update/report on IEP goals and coaching of strategies to help students succeed in their classrooms. The Therapist/Counselor/Psychologist may also be involved in crisis level support and creation of safety plans for students with more significant safety concerns, as well as delivering professional development to our staff and educational opportunities to our parents.

Responsibilities:

• Typically, your direct service hours comprise 70% of your weekly hours (e.g. 40 hours (full time) would be 28 direct service hours)

• Provide “push in” services in classrooms 
• Providing individual and group counseling to children/young adults with Autism
• Create, implement and track IEP written goals for each NPS student on caseload
• Complete necessary IEP paperwork (Present Levels, Goal progress, Propose new goals)
• Create, implement and track written goals for private students on caseload
• Participate on interdisciplinary team including Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Behaviorist, and Education Specialist, and Clinical Director
• Attend weekly Clinical meeting 
• Collaborate with teachers/Education Specialist to support students in the classroom
• Help with crisis intervention for students on and off caseload
• Attend weekly classroom meetings
• Family check-ins and parent education 
• Reports to Clinical Director

Qualifications

• Possession of valid license or associate level registration for one of the following: social worker, marriage family therapist, clinical counselor, psychologist, school counselor (PPS credential), or school psychologist, as defined by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences or relevant state licensing board
• Minimum of 5-7 years experience providing mental health services in school-based settings
• Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
• Ability to work with a team in a fast-paced and flexible environment
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of The Helix School 
• Passion for working with our special population of students and their families
• Experience working with students with a range of disabilities (learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, autism, etc.), and familiarity with special education and IEP team participation
