The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is Hiring a Research Athletic Trainer Near Liberty, NC

Overview

HJF is seeking a Research Athletic Trainer to support the Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) Research and Surveillance (R&S) Division located at the Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Liberty, NC (WAMC/FL). HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to EACE. US citizenship is required.

The incumbent will work with the EACE team at WAMC/FL to provide support for research projects focusing on musculoskeletal injury risk identification and treatment. The candidate will be required to deliver direct care aligned with standardized rehabilitation protocols and coordinate with healthcare clinics and providers to recruit potential research participants. Additionally, the research athletic trainer will directly contribute to the creation of knowledge dissemination products (e.g., manuscripts) resulting from the research. The position requires practical knowledge of research methods and research experience. The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative project oversight in order to maximize the effective use of project resources. Specific job duties include: overall research project coordination, study regulatory compliance, participant recruitment and retention, prospective and retrospective (e.g., electronic medical chart review) data collection, and knowledge dissemination.

We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. 

Responsibilities
  • Provide study related interventions and routine standard of care treatments, when appropriate, and ensure appropriate practice as set by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
  • Assists with data collection in adherence to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP) baseline assessment measures.
  • Assists with administrative logistics including consenting, data collection, and scheduling.
  • Maintains study participant files and documents all correspondence pertinent to the research study.
  • Assists with the development of knowledge dissemination products.
  • Communicates in a professional manner with the study team and attends team meetings. 
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required trainings for this role.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Master's Degree in a related field (e.g. Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine) preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.
  • Preferred at least 1 year of relevant AT work experience. Experience working in a military clinical setting and/or with military populations. Human subjects research experience. Experience conducting clinical research. Preferred experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python).
  • Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate an active security clearance and current credentialing privileges at WAMC/FL.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of clinical research practices and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of athletic training theory, musculoskeletal injury evaluation methods and techniques, professional medical rehabilitation, and therapeutic principles.
  • Extensive clinical experience and training with integrating complex medical conditions and designing individualized treatment plans based on documented objective findings from the evaluation process.
  • Ability to develop rapport with patients and clinic/hospital/research staff to develop confidence and cooperation. Well-developed clinical, analytical, and problem-solving skills and excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks to meet timelines and deadlines.
  • Candidate must be fastidiously organized, very flexible, and able to work under limited supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently.
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and people skills are required. 

Licenses and Certifications

  • A passing score from the Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer examination and current certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC).
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), as required by the BOC.

Physical Capabilities

  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to hike over rough terrain and lift/manipulate loads up to 50 pounds are required.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.

Security Requirements: US Citizenship Required, ability to obtain and maintain a T1 public trust background investigation.
