Title: English Department Head - Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Location: Beverly Hills, CA

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000 (Commensurate with Experience)

Job Type: Full-time, 10-month position with Jewish and Secular holidays off

Overview:

The English Department Head at our prestigious Beverly Hills Middle School (Grades 6-8) is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the English curriculum, faculty, and student success within the middle school division. This role requires a dynamic educator with a passion for English literature and language arts, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to academic excellence.

Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development:

- Develop and implement a comprehensive English curriculum that aligns with state standards and school objectives.

- Design engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning needs and styles.

- Stay current with educational trends and best practices in English language arts instruction.

2. Faculty Management:

- Provide instructional leadership and support to English teachers, including mentoring, coaching, and professional development opportunities.

- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to improve teaching practices.

- Collaborate with faculty to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.

3. Student Support and Achievement:

- Monitor student progress and academic performance within the English department.

- Implement strategies to support struggling students and promote academic growth and achievement for all learners.

- Foster a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking skills among students.

4. Departmental Administration:

- Coordinate departmental meetings, events, and activities.

- Manage departmental budgets and resources effectively.

- Collaborate with school administration, parents, and other stakeholders to support the overall mission and goals of the school.

5. Professional Development:

- Stay abreast of current research, trends, and innovations in English education.

- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and leadership abilities.

- Lead professional development workshops for English faculty as needed.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or related field (Master’s degree preferred)

- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with demonstrated leadership experience preferred

- Strong knowledge of English language arts curriculum and instruction

- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

- Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
