Description
The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South region. The Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of Cafe Server.
The Caf Server is responsible for ensuring all guests have an exceptional experience while at THNOC's Cafe. This position requires excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt to the needs of our many diverse guests, employees, and visitors of the French Quarter. This position is responsible for conducting cafe sales on the POS System. This position is also responsible for the maintenance of the cafe and ensuring the cafe is orderly, attractive, and welcoming. The Caf Server ensures that the food service operation enhances the quality of the Museum's visitor experience by providing efficient and friendly customer service, and consistently presenting a professional approach to the overall food and beverage service operations. The Caf Server is critical to minimizing product loss. The Caf Server may also assist in receiving, inventory management, and social media support as needed. This position may occasionally assist with special events.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of one year of food service, including experience in using a POS system. The successful candidate shall possess exceptional customer service and communication skills and an ability to resolve problems while working under minimal supervision. This position regularly moves products up to 25 pounds to 50 pounds.
This is a full-time position. The work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The candidate must be flexible with his/her work schedule for the purpose of supporting THNOC events and meetings. The Collection offers a competitive salary and a dynamic, educational culture.

Job Summary:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The below duties and responsibilities are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all guests. Greet each customer as they enter the Cafe, be available to customers and answer their questions, and thank visitors and customers as they are leaving.
  • Ensures compliance with all health and safety standards.
  • Expediently and courteously process sales by accurately handling money & credit cards, entering sales into the POS system and reconciling the end of day money and reports.
  • Timely communicate to the Manager out of stock/low stock items.
  • Keep available merchandise stocked. Restock as needed.
  • Assist in maintaining cafe cleanliness. Straighten, organize, and clean the Cafe as needed. Report burned out lights and other physical plant issues to Management.
  • Open and close the Cafe at published hours to ensure smooth operation and a high level of customer service.
  • Assist with physical inventory accuracy throughout the year.
  • Assist with projects and tasks relative to the improvement of the Cafe.
  • Work in the Cafe during on-site events and/or assist with sales at off-site THNOC events.
  • Position may include purchasing responsibilities, operating the POS systems to perform administrative tasks, reports, customer entry, inventory database, sales records, e-commerce and shipping as needed.
Job Qualifications:
Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position.
Education:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
Experience:
  • A minimum of one year of food service experience, including opening and closing a cafe
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills
  • Maintains basic knowledge of POS system, food preparation techniques, and use of all related equipment.
  • Ability to resolve problems and make decisions independently
  • Ability to learn and retain product and THNOC information
  • Ability to follow procedures and carry out instructions from Management
  • Ability to serve alcoholic beverages
  • Knowledge of purchasing and inventory management
  • Ability to work in a team-orientated, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated initiative, thoroughness, and accuracy
  • Punctuality, reliability and flexibility to an evolving work environment

Regularly move objects of up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds. This position consistently communicates with customers and others and observes, inspects, and assesses inventory and sales documents/information.
