Principal Assigned Responsibilities
- Directly supervise the Assistant Principal, educational staff, specialized service staff and support staff.
- Administer the Tilton School in accordance with the laws, regulations and policies of HGS, the NY State Education Department (NYSED), and other oversight agencies.
- Provide leadership, support, guidance and coordination to ensure a consistent and comprehensive approach to the implementation of the agency’s Quality Improvement Program.
- Ongoing evaluation and recommendation regarding the number and type of personnel needed to ensure operation of a progressive and effective educational program.
- Oversee the hiring, professional development, promotion and discipline of school staff.
- Ongoing review and evaluation of policies and procedures related to the educational program which include but are not limited to finances, staff development, physical plant.
- Ongoing evaluation of the educational curriculum, specialized services and support services offered to students.
- Oversee the functions of the Committee on Special Education to ensure effective student outcomes and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate the performance of all school staff annually in concert with the Assistant Principal.
- Plan and process the use of financial grants from state and federal governments (i.e. Title I, Neglect and Delinquent (N&D) funds).
- Actively participate in the intake screening of children referred to HGS to ascertain and ensure proper educational placement.
- Actively participate in agency wide committees as assigned by the Assistant Executive Director.
- Oversee all NYSED testing and assessment programs.
- Remain knowledgeable of the most current changes, opportunities and approaches utilized in educational programs.
- Participate in the ongoing assessment of staff training needs and coordinate in-service education of all instructional staff.
- Participate in agency wide program evaluation activities.
- positively represent the Agency in designated community, county and or state committees and other professional organizations (i.e.: NYS 853 School Coalition)
- Prepare and submit all required reports and documentation to NYSED within designated time frames.
- Prepare/maintain required documentation relative to employees as prescribed by the Agency.
- Active participant in agency –wide program planning and development, including identification of service gaps and needs in the community, development of new program initiatives and implementation of new programs appropriate to the Educational Program.
- Actively support staff in maintaining Sanctuary commitments and philosophy of trauma informed care.
- Complete special projects within area of expertise as assigned by the Assistant Executive Director.
- Master of Science in Education. Certificate in Advanced Studies (C.A.S.) in Administration preferred.
- New York State licensure as a School Administrator.
- Minimum of four years of administrative and supervisory experience in an educational setting.
