Title: Lower School Associate Teacher, Behavior Support (RBT) 

Reports to: Interim Head of Lower School

Projected Start Date: August 21, 2024

Work Location: 5 Hanover Square, New York, NY 10004

Position Description

The IDEAL School of Manhattan currently seeks a high-energy, passionate educator to work as an Associate Teacher with a Lower School student in need of direct behavioral support to access the curriculum and the community in an inclusion school. IDEAL’s Associate Teacher program provides a unique opportunity for special educators to gain experience through collaboration with established classroom teachers.

Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification and experience with behavior management and implementing modified behavior plans are required and experience working with BCBA is a plus. This person must have a strong ability to collaborate and follow the design of the established class routines, as well as the ability to create individual goals for his or her assigned student. The ability to differentiate and modify the curriculum and implement creative support strategies is required. 

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Partnering with teachers, therapists, and additional professionals on the implementation of support strategies for assigned student across settings

  • Implementing modified behavior plans and behavior management as needed for assigned student

  • Utilizing specific instructional and behavioral techniques to meet individual student needs

  • Working as a member of the Lower School classroom teaching team in an inclusive setting to plan and differentiate curriculum and support the classroom and other students as needed

  • Collaborating and following the design of the established classroom curriculum, as well as creating and implementing individual goals for assigned student

  • Creating differentiated lessons and materials to support assigned student’s access to the curriculum

  • Communicating proactively on a daily basis with the family of the assigned student

  • Attending CSE meetings and yearly goal reviews, as needed

  • Providing support for Activities of Daily Living, as needed

Essential Qualifications:

  • Appreciation for the school’s mission 

  • A strong understanding of differentiation 

  • The ability to collaborate as a part of a team 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • A desire to make a difference in the school--to contribute time and talent outside of the classroom to the growth of students and the school

  • Independent school experience preferred

Requirements

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience 

  • RBT certification 

  • Safety Care Training preferred (will be provided if not current)
