The Ion Center for Violence Prevention is Hiring a Public Education Specialist Near Covington, KY

The Ion Center for Violence Prevention is a non-profit agency serving 13 Kentucky counties with an important mission: providing the best care of people of all identities who have been impacted by power-based personal violence and measurably reducing the number of people who have been hurt by it. The Ion Center's identity shines in everything we do such as preventION, inclusION, compassION, protectION, interventION, collaboratION, and transformatION. All services provided to victim-survivors are free and confidential.
The Ion Center is looking for a compassionate individual that will train communities and schools in primary prevention with efforts focused in Covington, KY. The Public Education Specialist will establish relationships with community partners (local businesses, restaurants, bars, etc.) and implement bystander intervention programs. The Public Education Specialist will assist other educations with implementations as needed. JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Prevention and Community Engagement, provides violence prevention strategies to schools and groups. Conducts program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Principal Duties And ResponsibilitiesApplies ZeroV Program Member Service Standards and the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs (KASAP) Standards for survivors of rape.
Train schools and communities in primary prevention
  • Complete Training for Bystander Intervention Program and be approved by Director of Prevention and Public Education and Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Program Standards (KASAP)
  • Practice Bystander Intervention program material to the point of mastery
  • Implement bystander intervention program as part of an overall violence prevention strategy for participating schools and communities. Implement in a minimum of two schools or groups within the first year of employment.
  • Assist other educators implementing in other locations.
  • Present training/education for middle schools, high schools, colleges, and community partners.
  • Revise/evaluate programs and materials as needed
  • Maintain and grow number of participants reached at assigned implementation site.
Perform non-training professional responsibilities
  • Collaborate with local and state agencies, exchanging relevant information and participating in community activities.
  • Develop relationships with Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati school staff, parents, and students and assist in conducting trainings for these groups.
  • Attend public education team meetings and monthly meetings at KASAP in Frankfort, KY.
  • Complete IRB (Institutional Review Board) training for research protocol
  • Adapt program and presentations according to diverse needs of audience
  • All other duties as assigned by the CEO of Ion Center or the Director of Prevention and Community Engagement
Communication, Teamwork, and Administration Duties
  • Maintain agency and personal documentation.
  • Attend related meetings and trainings.
  • Report stats for funders.
  • Accept and disseminate donations.
  • Contribute to a clean, healthy, and trauma informed work environment.
  • Collaborate as a team across agency sites.

QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, skills, etc.):
  • Knowledge and skills at a level typically acquired through obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or High school diploma and at least four (4) years of applicable experience.
  • Outstanding oral and visual presentation skills
  • Ability to collaborate on a team to accomplish goals
  • Creativity and ability to engage people through interactive programing
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work under highly stressful, crisis-oriented situations
  • Skills in training, leading, organizing, advising, planning, and working independently
  • Ability to use training related equipment
  • Understanding of social media and ability to generate social media content
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care
  • Complete trainings for funding requirements and knowledge building
  • Must be a minimum age of 18.
MENTAL/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WHICH OCCUR REGULARLY IN PERFORMING THE JOB:
  • Speaking, seeing, hearing, standing, writing, walking, including climbing steps, carry, pull, lift, stoop, kneel
  • Using related office equipment keyboard and monitor, camera, copier, fax, phones, etc.
  • This position may involve exposure to infectious diseases and stressful situations.
