The Jewish Museum is Hiring a Public Programs Coordinator Near New York, NY

The Public Programs Coordinator reports to the Associate Director, Public Programs in the Education Department and assists with the planning and implementation of creative, dynamic, and engaging programs for adult audiences. As a member of the Adult Programs team, they work on events that relate to temporary exhibitions, the collection, and topical issues and that follow multiple formats such as artist panel discussions, author talks, performances, and gallery programs. The Public Programs Coordinator plays a central role in supporting onsite and virtual programming. They are someone who can think outside the box and who possesses a strong background in art history, studio art, and/or museum teaching. Qualified candidates may have the opportunity to steward select program partnerships or conduct research for upcoming programs.

Schedule: Full-time; 35 hours/week
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and develop all pre- and post-program materials, including letters of agreement and payment forms for speakers
  • Research program ideas and liaise with speakers and performers about logistics in advance of programs
  • Assist with budget tracking, attendance tracking, and grant reporting
  • Liaise with Security/Operations team on program setup and logistics
  • Support Associate Director, Public Programs on event setup, connect with AV Teams for tech at required programs, and Box Office and Visitor Experience staff to ensure smooth experience for program attendees
  • Work with Digital Asset Manager to organize photo and video documentation archive; arrange for recordings of onsite events to be posted online in a timely manner
  • Assist the Senior Manager, Academic Programs, with select academic programs including researching course listings for classes related to current/upcoming exhibitions and conducting outreach to professors to propose class visits
  • Help coordinate training sessions for Adult Per Diem Educators on Jewish Museum exhibitions
  • Assist with program evaluation as necessary
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred. Preferred fields of study include Fine Art, Art History, or Museum Studies
  • 2-4 years previous experience in museum education and programming, preferably with adult audiences
  • Strong research and organizational skills required; ability to handle and prioritize detailed projects simultaneously and carry them through to completion
  • Strong interest in contemporary art and music a plus
  • Interest in learning about Jewish culture; background in Jewish culture a plus but not required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with diplomacy when interacting with vendors, Museum staff, artists, outside scholars, and the general public
  • Ability to perform moderate physical labor (moving chairs, carrying supplies) and have a flexible work schedule: some weekend; numerous Thursday evening hours required for onsite public programs
  • Should be both willing to work as part of a team and independently on projects

Salary Range for Position: $54,075 - $57,000
