Description

If so, we are seeking a reentry systems engineer to help assess, design, prototype, and test next generation hypersonic, reentry systems and enabling technologies. As a member of our team, you'll be making critical contributions to develop these next generation systems, ensuring the enduring effectiveness of our Nation's strategic deterrent. You will be joining a collaborative and diverse team of engineers who work together to provide impactful solutions to system level objectives and challenges. As a Reentry Systems Engineer you will...

  • Assess weapon system capabilities and support the development of next generation reentry systems, hypersonic systems, and enabling technologies.
  • Collaborate and engage with multi-disciplinary project engineering teams within APL, government sponsors, and industry partners to develop innovative concepts and solutions.
  • Develop, plan, execute, and document component, sub-scale, and system level testing.
  • Develop and/or coordinate development of systems engineering artifacts such as Test and Evaluation Plans and Requirements Traceability Matrices.
  • Produce reports and presentations to communicate analysis results, concepts, proposals and recommendations to leadership, external organization partners, and government sponsors.
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Have minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Have experience with environmental testing (shock/vibration, thermal, etc.) with aerospace or similar complex systems.
  • Have experience with Hardware In The Loop (HWIL) testing.
  • Experience with hardware or software prototype development.
  • Have demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Have initiative and drive to make meaningful contributions to an important mission.
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret / SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a M.S. in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Have experience in the design or development of reentry, hypersonic, or space systems and relevant technologies.
  • Have experience in qualification of flight systems for DoD applications.
  • Have experience in the design, integration, and/or test of reentry, hypersonic, or space systems
  • Have experience with Cameo Systems Modeler.
  • Have experience preparing for and participating in major design reviews such as System Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Critical Design Review (CDR), and Test Readiness Review (TRR).
  • Have knowledge of the Navy Trident II Strategic Weapon System, Air Force ICBM System, and/or Navy Conventional Prompt Strike.
  • Hold an active Secret or higher level clearance
