Software Engineer
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Office of Information Technology (BSPH IT) seeks a Software Engineer to design, develop, test, implement, and support SharePoint (primarily on-premises) applications. This may include working with the Business Analyst and/or Web Services Manager to understand and analyze provided business requirements, provide design, develop technical specifications, perform coding, assist with unit testing, perform implementation, provide post-production application support, and perform project/task estimation.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Works at the highest programming / analytical level.
  • Defines system scope and objective based on user defined needs.
  • Solves complex problems regarding desired results.
  • May act as a project lead.
  • Regularly provides guidance and training to less-experienced IT staff.
  • Work is complex and varied in nature.
  • Troubleshooting production code/deployment.
  • Defines and discerns key aspects of a problem and develops an integrated solution within a broad technical and business context.
  • May delegate to lower-level IT staff.
  • Play the role in providing technical leadership and project coordination within the organization.
  • Is a resource/mentor for others within the organization.
  • Responsible for the complete life cycle for all but the largest projects.
  • Able to develop test plans for major projects.
  • Participates in a training program jointly developed with their manager/supervisor to gain technical and soft skills.
  • Provides broad technical support and focused training to functional users.
  • Mentors lower-level IT personnel as well as user community with their expert knowledge of the application.
  • May oversee work of more junior staff/be a team leader.

  • Generally, works independently.
  • Has wide range of autonomy and is responsible for meeting deliverables without supervision.
  • May set overall team or area priorities with supervisor.
  • Examples are not readily available in existing code or online.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Desire to take SharePoint beyond 'out of the box'.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft DevOps a plus.
  • Solid understanding of the issues, tools, and procedures related to managing software version control, GitHub.
  • Solid understanding of, and experience with, web-based, service-oriented applications in a collaborative, team environment.
  • 3 year's experience with Visual Studio, ASP.NET, C#, XML, JavaScript, CSS, master pages, themes, OData, and MS SQL.
  • Familiarity with Knockout and Angular.
  • Proficient in basic SharePoint security levels.
  • Proficient in basic SharePoint (SharePoint 2019) administration (Site creation, document libraries, etc.).
Solid understanding of Microsoft SharePoint-related technologies including but not limited to,
  • SharePoint Server 2019
  • Familiarity with InfoPath
  • Forms Services
  • SharePoint Designer
  • Web parts
  • Master pages
  • Template and page layouts
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

  • Higher education experience.

Education and Experience EquivalencyPlease refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
