LaSalle Network has partnered with a healthcare provider in Jacksonville, Florida for a remote Surgical Medical Coder position. They are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Surgical Medical Coder to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes to surgical procedures performed in their healthcare facility. The Surgical Medical Coder will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate documentation, optimal reimbursement and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations. Surgical Medical Coder Responsibilities:
Review operative reports, anesthesia records and other clinical documentation to accurately abstract surgical procedure details for coding purposes
Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes to surgical procedures, diagnoses and services performed
Ensure coding accuracy and completeness to support appropriate reimbursement and minimize denials
Collaborate with surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
Stay informed about updates to coding guidelines, regulations and compliance requirements related to surgical coding
Perform regular coding audits and participate in coding-related education and training initiatives
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times
Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external auditors as needed
Surgical Medical Coder Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in health information management or related field preferred
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required
4 years of experience in surgical coding, preferably in a healthcare facility setting
Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding systems
Strong understanding of surgical terminology, anatomy, physiology and procedural techniques
Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software preferred
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Commitment to maintaining coding accuracy, integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements
