Law Firm of J.W. Stafford, LLC – Senior Associate Position

We are seeking a motivated Senior Associate to become a part of our team! You will serve in a dual role with increasing responsibility as practice group manager and provide traditional client representation in legal proceedings, including drafting legal documents, and advising clients on employment law, professional license defense and national security clearance related matters.

The Law Firm of J.W. Stafford, LLC is located in Columbia, MD and is continuing to expand. Our office is located near Columbia Mall and offers close proximity to great restaurants, gyms, bike/walking trails and other great amenities.

The firm seeks an experienced employment attorney to join its thriving employment and professional license defense practices. The ideal attorney should have at least 6 - 10 years of experience in employment law or complex civil litigation, leading or supervising a team.

We are a law firm that is committed to producing high-quality work product for our clients and providing our attorneys with the opportunity to grow professionally.

Responsibilities:

· Manage and provide guidance, as appropriate, to attorneys, paralegals and staff;

· Represent clients in federal and state courts, as well as before administrative agencies;

· Counsel and advise employers facing employment law issues and/or legal proceedings;

· Prepare and draft legal pleadings, discovery and motions on behalf of clients;

· Advise licensed professionals facing investigations or disciplinary proceedings in front of their licensing board;

· Negotiate settlements for legal disputes;

· Engage in business development, including networking, webinars and presentations to advance the firm’s visibility in the community;

· Meet firm's established billable hour requirements; and

· Handle court appearances, depositions, and trials.

Qualifications:

· Journal or Law Review experience preferred;

· Experience handling proposed removals and proposed suspensions in federal sector cases;

· Experience representing federal employees before the U.S. EEOC and the MSPB;

· Licensed to practice law in Maryland and, preferably, in the District of Columbia;

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

· Strong research and writing skills;

· Ability to build rapport with clients; and

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job Type: The firm is looking for a full-time associate.

Benefits: A competitive salary, depending on level of experience ($110,000 - $130,000), a performance-based bonus, a 401(k) plan, health insurance, reimbursement of bar license fees, and other benefits.
