Family Law Paralegal- Part Time to Full Time

Experienced Family Law Paralegal/Legal Assistant needed to support rapidly growing Family Law practice. At Osborn Family Law, we are committed to providing empathetic and experienced guidance to families facing seemingly irreconcilable conflict.
Whether a family's needs include determination of child custody, spousal support and alimony, or equitable distribution of martial assets, we have the knowledge and experience to guide our clients toward a resolution in which everyone gains a measure of success by avoiding the inevitable stress and expense of litigation.
Although family law litigation skills are needed, this position will also include support and document/data management and client coordination for collaborative family law matters or cases that will ideally be resolved at mediation.
We are looking for someone with "Type A" organizational skills, outstanding communications skills, and excellent people skills and empathy, for the sake of connecting with & supporting our clients through what is often one of the most stressful times in their lives.
This is a part time, 15-25 hour per week position, with flexibility in working hours within our normal operating times of 8:30am - 5:30 pm, M-F. The position may grow into full time depending on firm growth and personality/ fit with firm. Bonus opportunity for meeting very reasonable productivity benchmarks.
Expected Job Duties (subject to change depending on skills and firm needs)
- Substantial client contact (including new client intake) by phone, in-person, and in writing with high level of professionalism, tact, patience, and discretion
- Work directly with family law clients to gather financial records and documentation and prepare for exchange with opposing counsel (usually by electronic/digital means)
- Case file file organization and management (primarily online/paperless)
- Coordinate exchange of financial records and other necessary documents with opposing counsel
- Extrapolate relevant data and information from financial records to enter on Excel spreadsheets or other financial information/data management software
- Drafting of pleadings related to custody, child support, post-separation support, equitable distribution, divorce judgments, and QDROs in family court
- Formatting and creation of separation and property settlement agreements, custody and visitation agreements, parenting agreements, and other agreements incidental to resolution of family law matters
- Regularly review files with attorney to prioritize workflow
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 3-5 years family law paralegal and/or legal assistant experience, and in particular familiarity with and high level of comfort working with and organizing financial records (bank statements, tax returns, 401k plans, etc.) related to post-separation support child support, alimony, and equitable distribution
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially dealing with clients or opposing parties who may be upset or emotionally volatile. Patience and tact are absolutely essential, along with excellent written / verbal communication skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and OneDrive; proficient with Adobe Acrobat, online/cloud based file-sharing protocols or portals, and
- Experience with Cosmolex or other major legal time entry, billing, and accounting software.
- Meticulous attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and keep track of deadlines in multiple matters (and to support an attorney who may not have these as his strongest suit!) :-)
- Strong follow-up; ability to keep others informed of issues and communications with clients.
- Motivated & self-directed. Ability to manage several tasks at one time and meet multiple deadlines when needed. Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Professionalism in appearance, demeanor, work ethic, and discretion.
Non-Required but Advantageous Skills
- Familiarity and experience with collaborative family law practice
- General litigation paralegal experience
- Specific experience with estate probate and estate administration process (related to collaborative law matters involving inheritance disputes
Education/Experience
- 4 yr. Bachelor’s Degree preferred, 2 yr. Associate's degree required
- 3-5 yrs. Previous Family Law Office experience
