The National Arts Club is Hiring a Development Manager Near New York, NY

POSITION TITLE: Development Manager

DEPARTMENT: Development

SUPERVISED BY: Executive Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

DESIGNATION: Exempt

The National Arts Club (NAC), a not-for-profit 501c3 organization, seeks a savvy and organized Development Manager to join our team. The NAC is dedicated to fostering and promoting public interest in the arts and educating the American public about the fine arts. With a rich history and vibrant community, the NAC provides a dynamic platform for artistic expression and cultural engagement. Part cultural institution/museum and part private club, the NAC has approximately 1950 members and counts many of New York’s artistic and creative minds among its membership. The historic Clubhouse creates the quintessential New York backdrop for art exhibitions, public programming, and a dynamic events calendar featuring lectures, panel discussions, literary and art events, and more. The Development Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the management team. The Development Manager will play a crucial role in advancing the mission of the National Arts Club by driving fundraising initiatives alongside the Executive Director, cultivating donor relationships, and securing financial support through grants and other funding sources. This position requires a proactive, strategic, and detail-oriented individual with a passion for the arts and exceptional communication and organizational skills. The right candidate will bring a high energy, professional, and positive disposition to the Club. This candidate will need to have an engaging personality that enjoys working with colleagues across departments and our members, alike. This is an on-site, position where the ability to multitask, develop strong relationships, take initiative, and work autonomously is vital. By doing so, this position enriches the Club’s appeal, branding, and community.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, Arts Administration, or a related field. • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or grant writing, preferably within a non-profit or arts organization.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES, & EXPECTATIONS • Excellent time management/communication skills • Excellent written/oral interpersonal skills with high degree of professionalism • Proficient use of and experience with utilizing a CRM platform • Listens well, hearing and reacting to feedback, both positive and negative. A National Historic Landmark • Exhibits sound and appropriate judgement; supports and explains reasoning for decisions and includes appropriate people in decision-making process. • Understands business implications of decisions; displays orientation to profitability; aligns work with strategic goals. • Displays appropriate work ethic; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; commits additional work hours when necessary to reach goals; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan. • Ability to work evenings as required for presence at activities and events

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & TASKS: • Organize and manage fundraising events and campaigns, including annual galas, membership drives, and special projects. • Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities aligned with NAC’s mission and programs. • Prepare, write, and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies. • Develop and maintain a comprehensive donor database to track contributions, communication, and engagement. • Prepare donor acknowledgment letters, stewardship reports, and other correspondence. • Plan and execute donor recognition events and activities to enhance donor engagement and retention. • Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and ensure timely submissions. • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director, including scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and managing correspondence. • Assist in the preparation of board meeting materials and participate in meetings as required. • Maintain organized and up-to-date records of all fundraising activities, including budgets, projections, and outcomes. • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and disseminate promotional materials and communications related to fundraising initiatives. • Deliver weekly ideas for long-term and timely opportunitiesto engage the arts locally, nationally, and internationally that can be leveraged to raise awareness and funds for the NAC. • Deliver weekly engagement metrics to the team as a barometer for campaign success; provide feedback and analysis as appropriate. • Identify like-minded organizations to engage with. • Communicates to Department heads and staff to build internal awareness about Club activities • Utilizes CRM and website to track and analyze Club usage and member interests, and donor information. • Works closely with committees and special interest group hosts to coordinate and develop diverse programming. • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with supervisory/administrative staff, employees, members and guests and attends management meetings. • Attends key events, confidently communicates Club brand, promotes awareness, solicits feedback. • Oversee a coherent and careful approach with Campaign and Event Major Donor prospects, ensuring coordinated effort with donors who give to overlapping campaigns • Track and report on Campaign revenue and expenses; • Effectively communicate the mission, vision, values, and priorities within the internal and external community. SUPPORTIVE JOB FUNCTIONS: In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the requirements of The Club. • Responsive to constructive criticism by the manager • Sets the example by adhering to rules and regulation set while on duty. • Other departmental tasks as assigned. • Has environmental awareness to reduce waste when possible and conserve water and energy and implements identified best practices in the work area. • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and to set and stick to priorities. • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and fundraising database management programs.

IMPORTANT NOTES: • Due to the cyclical nature of the Club (and Hospitality) industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Club. This may include weekdays, weekends, late nights, and/or early mornings. • All employees are required to fully comply with the Club’s Employee Handbook and any future updates (furnished upon employment acceptance).
