Diesel Truck Mechanic
SUMMARY: This position will be responsible to perform all technical duties of a technician in service and repair on company truck trailer, and other vehicles as assigned. Diagnose, inspect, and change or repo air defective vehicle components on vehicles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with all vehicle and trailer maintenance.
  • Assist shipping department with deliveries when needed; including warehouse loads and hauling boom lift to our other locations.
  • Housekeeping maintained and kept at a high standard.
  • Provide a list of all companies and vendors we currently order parts from in order to aide placing future orders.
  • Be willing to train new hires with computer programs and record keeping; maintain proper vehicle records.
  • Perform road calls when necessary.
  • Repairs and maintains diesel engines used to power trucks; using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools.
  • Recondition and replaces parts, such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments
  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Clean and maintain machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions.
  • Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines.
  • Special projects and assignments as business dictate.
  • Duties may be expanded upon and additional duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Five years' experience working as a Diesel Mechanic.
  • Vocational or Technical certification preferred
  • Must have a valid driver's license, valid CDL
  • Willingness to Travel
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Very detailed oriented with following instructions processes.

  • The noise level in the work environment can be at times loud.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles; vibrations
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • CDL License
  • ASE Certification or any certification that certifies them to complete DOT inspections
