The Pathway Initiative, Inc. (TPI), established in 2021, is an innovative, community-based, non-profit medical education organization. TPI envisions itself as a unique and socially responsible organization, which strives to support African American, Black, Hispanic, and Latinx students on their path to achieving medical education and employment. TPI aims to empower underrepresented individuals to become responsive leaders in the medical field, and worthy exemplars of under-resourced communities.

The Opportunity

TPI is seeking an Experiential Online Learning and Internship Program Coordinator to join our team as we grow our impact in the Greater Boston area and beyond. The Program Coordinator will work with the Executive Director to roll out STEM-based education, supervise Summer internship program with the City of Boston, Fall/Spring After-school programs, and present a positive image of The Pathway Initiative Inc. to external audiences through effective communication and program organization.

The Pathway Initiative Inc. is a partner organization of the City of Boston’s Office of Youth Engagement and Advancement (OYEA) Youth Employment, and the SuccessLink Program. This program is funded by the City of Boston and is designed not only to recruit and hire youth, but to ensure that their employment experience is engaging, meaningful, and foundational to their path for professional development and personal success. 

Each year, the City of Boston invests approximately $10 million dollars in community-based organizations across the city to provide the youth with early exposure to career paths. TPI’s goal is to provide a meaningful and informative learning experience supporting youth who are interested in a career in the medical field These experiences provide purpose-driven work, and are essential to achieving TPI’s mission of increasing diversity in medicine.

Main Responsibilities Include: 

  • Help design and delivery of STEM courses to students
  • Design product branding for marketing of online STEM programs.
  • Independently recruit tutors, and program participants for programs.
  • Lead STEM program delivery, and support program participants as needed. 
  • Lead school year SuccessLink internship program. 
  • Manage internship student recruitment.
  • Organize and execute effective internship site placement and alignment for internship program. 
  • Establish appropriate expectations and deliverables with internship partner sites
  • Ensure timely collection of student data and learning outcomes.
  • Write end of internships and grant program reports for funders.
  • Support expansion of internship partnership sites.
  • Flexibility and willingness to support other organizational growth when needed.
  • Experience working with underrepresented populations.

Desired Skills, Experiences, and Competencies: 

  • Ideal for new graduate to gain experience or an experienced professional to make greater impact.
  • Required to have at least 2 years of experience with design and delivery or work with students.
  • Must have experience with STEM curriculum development and execution. 
  • Basic understanding of science, particularly health sciences and the medical field. 
  • Considerable experience in project management and coordination of academic or internship programming.
  • Excellent communication skills, and a keen understanding of the nuances of writing for different audiences. 
  • Must be able to take initiative, be self-driven, and have passion for TPI’s mission and values. 
  • Ability to learn quickly, set and meet deadlines, and work efficiently and effectively. 
  • Must be committed to creating a positive experience for students and internship site partners.
  • Previous experience working with non-profit organizations is preferred, but not required.
  • Undergraduate degree required (Masters preferred) in STEM, business, marketing, or related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft, Google Suite applications, and Zoom.
