The Pennington School is Hiring an Instructor of Technology, Digital Citizenship, and Media Literac Near Pennington, NJ

The Pennington School seeks a passionate educator to shape our students' future, teaching Technology, Digital Citizenship, and Media Literacy. This pivotal role includes instructing ninth-grade students in digital literacy and citizenship and guiding tenth-graders through the complexities of information and media literacy. We are seeking a candidate who is not only well-versed in the latest technological advancements but also deeply understands the profound impact of technology on both individuals and society. The ideal applicant will bring a dynamic, innovative approach to our collaborative learning environment, inspiring students to engage critically with technology and its role in our world. The optimal candidate will have proven success with teaching students in Grades 9-12.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and teach multiple sections of two current courses: Grade 9 and Sophomore Seminars
  • Create lesson plans that are appropriate for the age and abilities of the students in the class
  • Embrace student-centered teaching practices and backward design in curriculum planning
  • Elicit individual excellence in every student, moving the student toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding
  • Evaluate student performances in class and on tests and provide feedback
  • Encourage critical, collaborative, and independent thinking during problem-solving on assignments, projects, tests, and other graded assessments
  • Assign special projects to students
  • Communicate students' progress to parents, particularly regarding students who need tutoring or other extra assistance
  • Provide appropriate resources and learning materials for students
  • Identify varying teaching methods that work best for students who learn differently
  • Communicate with School faculty and administration regarding curriculum planning, project scheduling, and student concerns
  • Develop and update curriculum for the classroom
  • Encourage creativity in students
  • Maintain accurate records of students' progress in class and on examinations
  • Stay up-to-date on changes and advancements in computer technology taught in the classroom
  • Demonstrate warmth, collegiality, humor, and industry in interactions with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Lead or participate in 2 extracurricular activities and/or athletic endeavors
  • Serve as a contributing member of the Computer Science and Engineering department
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, media relations, communications, or related field
  • Experience teaching high school and/or middle school students with a wide range of learning styles and familiarity with the subject matter
  • Breadth of knowledge from computer hardware to productivity software to programming
  • Three years of high school teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
  • Ability to develop curriculum and convey information to students in a classroom setting
  • Exceptional computer skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Good social networking skills
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Enthusiasm for working with students in and out of the classroom
  • Desire to be an active member of a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Interest in a boarding school environment
  • Ability to work with a variety of learning styles
  • Experience/willingness to lead at least two extracurricular and/or athletic endeavors per year
  • A positive attitude, a growth mindset, and a sense of humor
  • Experience with Python, software engineering tools and concepts, and cybersecurity is a plus
Physical Demands And Work EnvironmentThe working environment is an office and school environment on a 55-acre campus. The ability to occasionally lift files and storage boxes, walk up and down stairs, attend meetings in varying locations throughout campus, and continually use computers and related office equipment is required. Not all buildings on campus have elevators.
This position is full-time, exempt from overtime, and eligible for all benefits afforded to full-time Pennington School employees.
