The Pennington School is Hiring a Part-Time Teacher of English Language Learners Near Pennington, NJ
The Pennington School seeks a part-time English Language Learning Lab teacher, beginning in August 2024, to cover 2-3 sections of English Language Lab classes in the Upper and/or Middle School and to collaborate with colleagues to strengthen English language instruction.
Essential DutiesSupport first- and second-year Pennington ELL students to manage course expectations, especially in language-rich courses;
Help assess the English language proficiency of students new to the School.
Embrace student-centered teaching practices
Understand the integration of the ELL program and how it ties into the course curriculum
Work to elicit individual excellence in every student, moving the student toward personal and collective goals in skills, habits of mind, and understanding
Stay current in the academic field to ensure use of up-to-date pedagogy, current materials, and best practices
Participate in new international student orientation
Help students adapt to the academic norms and cultural environment at Pennington
Assess the preparedness of ELL students new to Pennington for its college prep program
Teach two sections of a Pennington ELL course designed to support academic work, especially in language-heavy courses like English, History, Biology, Geometry
Plan and design co-curricular enrichment for new and continuing ELL students
Plan and design in-service work for faculty to support their work with ESL students.
Provide evening study hall support to ELL students as needed

Essential Qualifications
- A degree in education, either in language instruction or ELL instruction, with at least three years of teaching experience preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work with a variety of learning styles
- Enthusiasm for working with students in and out of the classroom
- Desire to be an active member of a community that embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Interest in a boarding school environment
- Prior experience at a boarding school that serves international students is a plus
- Ability to coach a team sport is a plus
