Retail Store Manager Job Summary

Our specialty retail company (pools, hot tubs, billiards & game tables, and outdoor living) is seeking a Retail Store Manager who can create store policies, employee training programs, and marketing programs that will increase sales, enhance customer service and grow the existing customer base. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and adjusting operations to stay within the corporate budget, and making any changes necessary to sustain the projected profit margin for each quarter. A retail manager’s role is to run a store successfully which includes working on the shop floor. They are in constant contact with customers and staff. They are responsible for ensuring their staff give great customer service as well as monitoring the financial performance of the store. Retail Store Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • recruiting, training, supervising and appraising staff - improve the knowledge base of the staff and utilize cross-training methods to maintain productivity when employees are absent
  • scheduling and assigning staff responsibilities including following up on work results via coaching, counseling and disciplining employees
  • managing financial budgets – setting/meeting sales targets and motivating sales staff to do so; focus on expenditures by managing all controllable costs to keep operations profitable
  • dealing with customer inquiries and complaints
  • Maintain inventory pricing and stock controls by assisting with purchasing plans and staying in contact with vendors; secures merchandise via inventory counts and other systems
  • Maintain a clean, safe store environment
  • Develop a schedule of holiday activities and promotions throughout the year which are strategically designed to bring in more revenue
  • Work with vendors and internal staff to prepare effective marketing displays for the sales floor and store windows
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, developing training programs with sales reps, studying trade publications, and establishing personal networks

Retail Store Manager Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred
  • 5 years of retail management experience, preferably in a commissioned environment
  • Excellent computer and software skills required
  • Confidence and Enthusiasm with strong verbal communication skills
  • Organizational Skills
  • Proven history of successfully training employees in a variety of departments
  • Strong understanding of sales and customer service techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and work within a budget

Advancement Opportunities:

  • Retail Store Managers would typically advance to Regional Store Managers or General Manager of Retail Sales
