The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for consistently delivering the highest quality grounds services in the industry, while remaining focused on productivity and profitability. The Assistant Operations Manager is an extension of the Operations Manager in his/her absence, acting as the eyes and ears of that manager while performing in the role of a company manager at all times. The duties include, but are not limited to, managing the operations, recruiting, hiring, disciplinary actions, and equipment and crew decisions. This is a hands-on position that requires the Assistant Operations Manager to fill whatever role the Operations Manager deems necessary to complete the days’ tasks.

• Ability to pass Federal eligibility requirements.
• Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Have own transportation to and from field office.
• Ability to walk and remain on feet for most of workday.
• Ability to lift and carry eighty (80) pounds.
• Possession of a Michigan CDL License.
• Possess a valid Medical Examiners Certificate (Medical Card)
• Insurance company approval of driving record.
• Ability to pass drug test.
• Possession of a Michigan Pesticide Applicator’s license. (Core, 3A, 3B, & 6)
• Proficient with computers, specifically Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.
• Willingness to improve personal knowledge of horticultural and industry skills.
• Experience managing multiple crews and client locations for both landscape maintenance and snow removal.
• Effectively communicating with management, peers, assistants, clients, and vendors.
• Properly completing all required company paperwork.
• AM dispatch, including assistance in vehicle loading and preparation, PM office shutdown including assisting in equipment repairs and maintenance.
• Maintaining truck, trailer, equipment, shop & office to company standards.
• Meeting company standards regarding presentation of self.
• Following and promoting company safety rules.
• Ability to analyze job sites to meet company standards for quality and productivity.
• Effective management and training of supervisors and work crews.
• Ensure that field work crews perform their duties in the most productive manner.
• Application of pesticides to minimize hand weeding & weed whipping. (Roundup/PreM)
• Minimizing expenses/costs of operations.
• Crew Training and oversight are essential duties to be performed.
• Able to take initiative in making decisions.
• Ability to measure and analyze sites accurately for estimating job costing.

Level I Qualifications:

• Combination of education and work experience indicating a minimum capacity to supervise a work crew
• Ability to manage a small and/or basic grounds care work crew
• Knowledge and ability to operate basic landscape maintenance equipment

Level II Qualifications:

• Level I Qualifications plus:
• One year of supervisory experience.
• Ability to manage a large and/or full service grounds care work crew
• Knowledge and ability to operate all landscape maintenance equipment

Level III Qualifications:

• Level II Qualifications
• Three years of supervisory experience
• Ability to manage multiple work crews
• Combination of education and work experience indicating a capacity to advance to a management position
