Description

Title: Registered Nurse PRN or PART TIME 

Reporting Relationship: Reports to RN Clinic Manager

Status: PRN or Part Time, Non-Exempt

Summary/Objective

The RN is responsible for the provision of sexual health and healthcare services within a clinic setting. This position will be a member of the Clinic Services Department, with the purpose to provide healthcare services and public health education patients seeking sexual health testing with a focus on high-risk groups: people who inject drugs (PWIDs), sex workers, youth, communities of color, transgender, and men who have sex with men (MSM). This position will assess, diagnose, and provide treatment for certain STDs and PrEP/PEP. The position will work across care teams to provide linkage to care services to HIV and HCV positive individuals requiring specialty care. This position will also assist with the Gender Affirming Care program.

Essential Functions

  • Perform specialized assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services to STD Clinic utilizing appropriate protocols and guidelines including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
  • Provide harm reduction education and supplies, including clean syringe needle access to the PWID community.
  • Perform routine HIV, HCV, PrEP, and other related disease lab services at the on-site clinic.
  • Elicits health histories related to sexual activity and presenting symptoms.
  • Uses test results and clinical assessment to determine type and stage of STD and administer appropriate treatment allowed under protocol
  • Performs all clinical tasks following established policies and protocols
  • In collaboration with case management staff, provide early intervention services (e.g. linkage to care) to clients to establish necessary primary care and/or infectious disease specialty care.
  • Provide partner notification services.
  • Foster, a team-based care model to ensure optimal continuity of care for clients.
  • Manage and prepare safer sex materials for distribution.
  • Facilitate community-based events and educational presentations on sexual health.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, with typical office noise and other disruption.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Both standing and sitting are required.
  • Various types of equipment/supplies are used to accomplish the job requirements and include, but are not limited to, calculators, computer keyboards, telephone, printers, scanner, copier etc.
  • The employee may be required to lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 35 pounds. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a PRN or Part Time position. While hours of work for the Registered Nurse and days for TPQC are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., hours for this position may vary.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in IL
  • Experience with high-risk groups described preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills a must.
  • Must have sensitivity to, interest in, and competence in cultural differences; injection drug use; HIV/AIDS; minority health; sexual practices; and a demonstrated competence in working with persons of color and the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender community
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications and comfort with learning other computer applications required.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR)

Licensure and Certification Requirements

  • Current RN License in Illinois

Preferred Training and Experience

  • RN license in Iowa

Salary

Compensation starts at $25.00 per hour. The final offered hourly pay is determined by years of professional and/or lived experience beyond the minimum requirement, with an additional 2.5% for those proficient in a second language relevant to the role. Our compensation structure is experience-centric and not contingent on education. As part of our commitment to pay equity, salaries are non-negotiable and include an annual cost of living increase.
