The Purple Pig is Hiring a Sommelier/Beverage Director Near Chicago, IL

The Purple Pig is looking for a Sommelier/Beverage Director to join our team!
We are looking for a candidate that is eager to join a successful team and beverage program. Our team is built on providing exceptional hospitality to our guests, and maintaining a positive and respectful workplace culture.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years working in a fast paced, full service restaurant.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience managing a beverage program.
  • In-depth beverage knowledge and strong understanding of daily management systems, including but not limited to P&L assessment.
  • Ability to identify problems, solve them, and prevent future occurrences of similar issues.
  • Must have flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays; schedules are posted well in advance. Requests for time off are accommodated as much as possible within the needs of the business and service.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain current working systems while refining and implementing new systems to help advance the business and beverage program.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with guests, co workers, and ownership.
  • Completing administrative tasks including opening and closing duties, assigning sections, cash handling, reprinting of menus, and maintaining a strong presence on the floor during service.
  • Coach and support for all employees, and assist any FOH worker's within their respective roles.
  • Lead all operations within beverage program, including:
    • Maintain up to date order guides, continue productive relationships with our vendors.
    • Control beverage-focused administrative duties, management of invoices, up to date menus online and in the restaurant, accuracy of pricing between printed menu and POS.
    • Communicate with our lead bartender and entire service staff on menu updates or changes.
  • Maintain and develop systems to ensure accountability for the cleanliness of beverage related areas. The wine room, bar, and beverage cooler will be main areas of focus.
  • Conduct training for our staff to educate and reinforce their knowledge on all things beverage. Focusing on our extensive wine list first and foremost.
