The Ridge Post Acute with 54 beds located in the east of San Jose, California. We understand the individuality of each person, and our healthcare staff is dedicated to achieving the maximum level of a resident’s potential while providing a compassionate environment.

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Dietary Kitchen who can work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional care to our residents.

Dietary Kitchen's main responsibility is to assure that quality food service is provided at all times. Assist any residents that need help eating their meals. Assist in clean up, kitchen maintenance, and setting up and taking down the dining areas. Other job duties include delivering food to residents' rooms, preparing and serving snacks, and taking inventory of food and kitchen supplies.

  • As Kitchen/Cook, you have delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
  • Manage food and supply inventory, ensuring adequate amounts for menu needs.
  • Maintain correct tray cards and supplement labels for correct food services.
  • Supervise kitchen functions for compliant service; including proper sanitation, record keeping, and food storage.
  • Assist in developing methods for determining the quality and quantity of food served.
  • Place orders with food and supply vendors under the supervision of a dietary supervisor.
  • Input diet changes, food preferences, and supplement orders into the computer system.
  • Print and prepare tray cards and supplement labels for each day’s meal service.
  • Participate in maintaining records of the resident’s food likes and dislikes.
  • Monitor tray-line for compliance in cross-contamination prevention, safe food handling, and sanitation.
  • Monitor kitchen daily for compliance with sanitation, inspecting kitchen counters, floors, refrigerators, freezers, dish room, cook and preparation areas, and storage. Observe for non-compliance practices and correct them as needed.
  • Monitor records of food temperatures, refrigerator and freezer temperatures, dishwasher temperature and chemical levels, and cool-down logs. If incomplete, identify responsible employees and enforce compliance.
  • Monitor food storage practices, ensuring that all stored items are in the appropriate temperature zone, are covered, dated, and labeled, and are stored safely and properly.
  • Prepare food, etc., in accordance with sanitary regulations as well as with our established policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all food storage rooms, preparation areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Assist in the purchasing of food and supplies.
  • Ensure that stock levels of staple/non-staple food, supplies, equipment, etc., are maintained at adequate levels at all times.
  • Ensure that food and supplies for the next meal are readily available.
  • Assist in inventorying and storing incoming food, supplies, etc., as necessary.

EDUCATION:

  • Must have High School Diploma or GED

EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive Customer Service is REQUIRED
  • 1-year of experience as a dietary cook is PREFERRED
  • 2 years of experience in a geriatric or rehabilitative Nursing environment is PREFERRED
  • 3 years of experience in a food service arena, long-term care, or restaurant service PREFERRED
  • Background in institutional kitchen equipment use
  • No more than 2 jobs in 1 year

CERTIFICATION:

  • Food Handler Certification PREFERRED

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must be well groomed, in clean and proper clothing, and practices good personal hygiene at all times.
  • Able to communicate clearly with managers, and other kitchen staff team members.
  • Able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Understand and follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Able to safely and accurately handle kitchen utensils and other portioning and food preparation utensils.
