The Road Home was founded in 1923 and has been a leader in the endeavor to end homelessness for over 100 years. We provide low-barrier emergency shelters, supportive services, and housing-first-minded rental assistance that helps individuals and families step out of homelessness and back into the community. Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in regulating activities in the kitchen, ensuring rules and procedures are followed.
- Provides assistance and support to the Kitchen Manager and acts as Lead in the absence of the Kitchen Manager and assists with managing Kitchen Staff.
- Assists in resolving conflicts with guests.
- Assists in developing menu plans in collaboration with delivered meals.
- Ensures meals are served at scheduled times each day.
- Provide proper training to Kitchen Staff.
- Collaborates with Volunteer Coordinator to provide the clear direction of food services and general overall operation of the kitchen with the kitchen volunteers and teach safe food handling practices.
- Assists Kitchen Manager in inventory and reports.
- Provide clear and specific information to guests and instruct them on kitchen expectations in a kind, compassionate and Trauma Informed way.
- Assists all kitchen volunteers in duties related to the kitchen and to meet all cleanliness standards when performing food related tasks, teach safe food handling practices; ex: appropriate clothing and footwear, hairnets, gloves or aprons.
- Maintains/organizes kitchen, food storage locations, and all equipment to ensure all is in proper working order and to meet all Health Department standards.
- Assists with the oversight of food storage and food handling practices to maintain the kitchen and food service areas according to safe food handling regulations.
- Develops positive relationships with centers volunteers, guests, and other agency staff.
- Acts as a member of a cohesive team.
- Other duties as assigned.

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience working with diverse populations preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and handle difficult situations with professionalism, compassion and from a Trauma Informed Care perspective.
- Understanding of the Housing First philosophy. Willingness to have conversations with guests about housing.
- Ability to evaluate own performance to increase effectiveness as the Team Lead.
- Good computer skills.
- Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
- Excellent team player.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and be flexible in responding to changes.
- Reliable and dependable, including attendance.
- Must have a valid ServSafe certification.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable on the agency auto policy.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk two or more hours at a time
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment

Originally established as the Travelers Aid Society in 1923, The Road Home changed its name in 2001 to better reflect our mission of helping people step out of homelessness and back into our community. The Road Home is a private, non-profit social service agency that assists individuals and families with children experiencing homelessness in Salt Lake County and along the Wasatch Front. The agency has been providing emergency shelter services since 1988 and housing services since 1995. We currently offer emergency shelter services in Salt Lake County with no eligibility criteria for clients to access services including; nightly beds, showers, access to laundry facilities, clothing, blankets, diapers, personal toiletries, etc. Case managers can assist clients in connecting with public benefits, substance abuse treatment, mental health assessment and treatment, job training and development, childcare services, housing assistance and more. Our Salt Lake Community Shelter and Resource Center and Midvale Family Resource Center shelters can be accessed 24 hours/day, 365 days/year. Priority populations like families with children, Veterans and those experiencing chronic homelessness are assigned case managers to facilitate transitioning out of shelter and into housing as quickly as possible. Case managers work with clients to develop a basic needs assessment and a short-term case plan. Once in housing, case managers continue working with clients to help them build the skills necessary to maintain stable housing, increase income, and ensure access to mainstream benefits. This includes conducting in-home visits to ensure participants are meeting the terms of their lease, providing referrals to community resources, and helping to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented households from finding and/or maintaining housing.
