Job Description
The Starting salary for this position is $43,000 to $45,000 depending on experience

Summary/Primary Purpose: This support position assists the fundraising team as a member of the Development department in managing major donor portfolios, research, communications, and other general office duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage donor data and portfolios, utilizing our CRM system, Sales Force, and other management information systems with emphasis on timeliness, completeness and accuracy.
  • Assist in donor prospect research and qualification.
  • Compose and/or assist with all donor correspondence and proposal preparation, including complex reporting for direct mail, and possibly develop regular donor e-communications.
  • Organize and prioritize large volume of information, donor requests, calls, and provide clerical support for the team.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Draft written responses by phone or email when necessary and respond to regular requests for information.
  • Answer phones when needed, take messages or field/answer all routine and non-routine questions, in cooperation with other Development department team members.
  • Responsible for establishing priorities and meeting deadlines as directed.
  • Provide support during seasonal events like D.J.'s Hero Awards Luncheon, Tree of Lights, Back to School Distribution and others.
  • Provide backup to other support staff when they are out of office.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of volunteers.
Additional Information
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience. Previous sales office experience is a plus.
Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills, and the ability to access data systems via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical requirements include good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. May need to climb, balance. Kneel, crouch or crawl. This position will require the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.
Working Conditions: The work environment involves a quiet to moderate noise level of an office setting.
