The Salvation Army Northwest Division is Hiring a Store Manager Near Lewiston, ID

We are seeking a candidate with management skills to provide positive guidance and team building to our Sales and Production Associates in our Thrift Store; developing store strategies to optimize profitability, meeting sales goals by training, motivating, mentoring and providing feedback to store staff. We are looking for a results driven individual to be responsible for he overall store management. Excellent customer service is a must!

MISSION STATEMENT:

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Minimum three (3) years of management experience in a retail operation, merchandising and supervision of staff; experience overseeing volunteers a plus
  • Minimum two (2) years of specialty retail, thrift, consignment or distribution management experience preferred; three (3) years of experience highly desired.
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Computer – Software/Hardware Experience (Word and Excel, Outlook)

SCOPE OF POSITION/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Thrift Store Manager provides supervision, oversight, and management of store operations to generate revenues that support agency administration and programs. The manager will manage staff, volunteers as well as oversee sales, donation of merchandise, promotion of the store in the community, and internal fiscal controls with efficiency, effectiveness, and courtesy. This position will ensure financial success and employee satisfaction through the attainment of measurable objectives which must be accomplished in order to meet the demands of the job.

Responsibilities of a manager include: management of warehouse/distribution functions and personnel; store set-up; remodel, and closures; and retail operations. The overall goal is to financially support TSA programs by producing the highest possible revenue and margin while controlling operating costs. The Manager must ensure warehouse operations and donation collections run efficiently within budget and that quality product quickly reaches the sales floor. Key success factors for the Manager include: meet or exceed revenue budget targets; reduce expenses due to improved processes; identify and establish new business/donation opportunities; and develop personnel succession plans to support evolving business needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; responsible, well organized, honest, and dependable
  • Adaptable to working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and circumstances
  • Ability to maintain a professional, courteous, cooperative, welcoming manner with all individuals he/she with and demonstrate respect and a positive attitude toward them at all times.
  • Proficiency in operating point of sale systems; working knowledge of budgets, projections, and fiscally responsible procedures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of general office equipment and Windows operating system
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including Saturdays
  • Current Drivers license with acceptable driving history

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a cooperative, friendly and helpful attitude with employees, volunteers, customers and donors
  • Create a positive and constructive environment throughout the Family Store by working closely with co-workers and volunteers
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all employees, volunteers, customers, and donors through clear communication and application of policies and procedures
  • Complete and submit all required and assigned paperwork in a timely and accurate manner
  • Oversee and manage staff, including scheduling, hiring, supervising, coaching, performance evaluation, professional development, disciplining, and terminating as necessary
  • Ensure proper store and donation coverage through scheduling employee break and meal periods; review and approve employee time cards
  • Conduct staff training and hold staff meetings as needed
  • In conjunction with Warehouse Manager, develop, implement, and maintain efficient production system and practices to process donations, including sorting lines, bric-a-brac, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate sales practices are done according to current fiscal standards; this includes ringing in sales, register corrections and over-rings, credit card transactions, denials or rejected credit cards
  • Safeguard cash at all times; verify daily deposits, sales reports, and bank receipts
  • Assure the safety of employees, volunteers, customers, donors, property, and buildings; report all accidents, injuries, and safety hazards to appropriate individuals
  • Oversee facility maintenance: report maintenance/repair needs to supervisor, and ensure facility cleanliness both inside and out
  • Oversee and maintain all equipment, including the video security system
  • Maintain needed store supplies through approved vendors
  • Maintain and increase knowledge of resale, thrift, consignment, and retail trends
  • Oversee sales floor product merchandising to enhance store appearance and create an inviting shopping environment
  • Contribute to the development of revenue projections that meet and/or exceed financial goals
  • Resolve any/all complaints from the community concerning operational matters, i.e. pick up services, customer service, employee conduct, etc.
  • Visit competition thrift/consignment stores periodically (at least quarterly) to compare product, pricing, merchandising, etc., and make recommendations to the supervisor to improve competitiveness and sales
  • Handle special projects as assigned

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook email. Ability to use new software programs with basic training.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed primarily in a heated and ventilated store setting. The noise level is low. Brief exposure to hot, cold and inclement weather when managing the receipt of donations. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

PROTECT THE MISSION (PTM):

  • Must complete require online PTM Training and pass the background checks required by The Salvation Army for employment.

DRIVER REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be a licensed driver with acceptable driving history. Must also complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course.

BENEFITS:

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums for employee-only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary 1 and family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employer-paid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus, an employee-funded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after three months’ service time.

Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually, accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually, accruing from day one, for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays 1 floating holiday per year
