The role We recognise the key to our success is an exceptional Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and we are seeking an outstanding individual to join our team in transforming The Salvation Army. We have an exciting opportunity for a Housing Support Worker to join our Housing Pathways Program Prisons. This position will be based in Sunshine (and onsite at prison locations), providing assessment of immediate and long-term housing needs to service users who are at risk of homelessness upon release on bail and/or following sentencing. Responsibilities include Connect service users to appropriate housing options including crisis accommodation Assess requests and provide, where appropriate, financial, and other resources that may be allocated to the program Support clients to develop an individual case plan and journey towards goals will be monitored Provide clients access to current knowledge of local community agencies, Real Estate Agents, and relevant resources Using a trauma informed model of care, provide outreach and case management to clients referred from Prison and Court Services Reporting to the Team Leader, this position is a fixed-term full-time position, contracted for 12 months. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5 Award. To be successful for the role, you will possess Demonstrated understanding of contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness Experience in dealing with diverse issues in homelessness for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities and methods of providing culturally appropriate solutions (highly desirable) Knowledge of Justice system and experience working in correctional settings (desirable) Demonstrated experience engaging with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and service providers Lived experience Ability to apply homelessness models, theories and practices when dealing with clients Tertiary qualification in Social Work or related community service field Degree level preferred, however lower qualifications with significant experience will be suitable A valid Victorian Driver’s Licence In return we offer our employees real and meaningful benefits such as As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employee, you can join our Burra Burra Network, connect regularly with our Salvation Army Territorial Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Team, have access to Sorry Business leave, and a dedicated Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander EAP Service.
