The Salvation Army Midland Division is looking for a Disaster Recovery Services Construction Assistant. This individual will work in collaboration with the Disaster Case Managers to assist in the process of recovery by conducting repair and/or rebuild project assessments, creating scopes of work including cost estimates, and coordinating the repair and/or rebuilding of survivors' homes to safe, sanitary, secure, and functional. This Position travels extensively throughout Saint Louis.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, $ 39,000 per year.

Essential Functions

1. Under the direction of the Construction Manager, Works with the Disaster Case Managers on carrying out construction projects outlined in completed assessments.
2. Discuss the statement of understanding (homeowner's agreement/scope of work) with homeowners, as needed.
3. Develop solid working relationships with appropriate building inspectors and maintain an excellent working knowledge of standard codes and construction techniques.
4. Work with county/city building department to ensure that all repairs and/or rebuilds are conducted following local building codes.
5. Secure all components needed to complete home repair/rebuild projects including the timely acquisition of materials, equipment, and tools.
6. Ability to travel throughout the St. Louis Region.
7. Supervise the efforts of volunteers, contractors, and inspectors to complete the project promptly.
8. Ensure that skilled construction person(s) are available to supervise all volunteer work and provide guidance throughout the project(s).
9. Maintain accurate records of construction progress, reports, and financial accounts for each project, providing information to DCMs and reporting regularly to internal and external departments.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university or three to five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge of building codes and necessary permits.
3. Ability to direct and supervise various construction projects.
4. Must have an appropriate valid driver's license and past TSA MVR check.

Physical and Working Conditions

Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Occasionally lifts 24 pounds. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. However, occasional outdoor travel is required in the summer and winter.
