The Salvation Army USA Eastern Territory is Hiring a Social Services Coordinator Near Stamford, CT

Location: Stamford Corps (Stamford, CT)
Status: Part-time
Hours Per Week: 25
Schedule: Mon-Fri: 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Purpose of Position: Provide various services to individuals in need and assist them with identifying and addressing the root causes of their situation. Educate the community regarding the various social service programs of the Stamford Corps. Assist in productively developing and expanding the social service ministries programs of the Stamford Corps.
Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of The Salvation Army, the State of Connecticut, the Connecticut Food Bank, and any other entity governing the distribution of materials and services.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism with clients, staff, community representatives, and volunteers.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all job-related matters.
  • Provide all forms of direct service to clients, including, but not limited to, intake, assessment, referrals, advocacy, and material assistance based upon guidelines, available resources, and policies and procedures of The Salvation Army.
  • Discuss special cases with the Corps Officers to resolve client situations.
  • Refer clients seeking spiritual guidance to the Corps Officers.
  • Connect program participants from the social service programs to Corps ministries programs, i.e., Sunday services, youth and adult ministries, etc., when appropriate.
  • Provide clients with information and referrals to appropriate Salvation Army programs and community resources.
  • Maintain confidential client files and accurate records with pertinent information, including services provided and a plan of action.
  • Establish and maintain a database of community resources to refer clients that may help address their needs.
  • Keep abreast of community issues and services by visiting other community agencies.
  • Represent The Salvation Army at social service community functions as requested by the supervisor.
  • Meet with organizations and businesses within the community to inform them of the Stamford Corps’ programs, events, and seasonal activities.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance of the social services office. These tasks may include general office management such as typing, filing, computer use, and mailing preparation.
  • Keep workspace neat and clean.
  • Coordinate monthly statistics for The Salvation Army and Food Bank.
  • Recruit and train volunteers. Be a point person for volunteer requests and questions.
  • Supervise in-house participants of the A4TD Senior Community Service Employment Program.
  • Participate in training, seminars, workshops, and other educational opportunities that would enhance the skills relating to this position. Attend staff meetings as requested by the supervisor.
  • Develop and expand the social service ministries programs of the Stamford Corps in conjunction with the Corps Officers and the Divisional Social Ministries Director to include, but not limited to life and parenting skills workshops.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the food pantry and diaper bank.
  • Assist in coordinating various Corps’ social services programs, activities, and services, including seasonal programs, such as Youth Camp, Christmas and Thanksgiving activities, and the Back-to-School Backpack Event.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related social services field preferred; three years of case management required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to maintain ethical conduct business consistent with the organization's mission, values, and policies.
  • Ability to organize responsibilities, multitask, and function independently.
  • Ability to work without close supervision on assigned duties and willingness to seek and accept supervision as needed.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; p roficient in spoken and written English.
  • Computer proficiency required, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate excellent ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to issues related to poverty and the barriers faced by people with low incomes.
  • Detail oriented with keen attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathetic listening.
  • High energy level, solid work ethic, and ability to respond to changing conditions.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Must complete KeepSAfe and other training requirements upon hire.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Prior experience with motivational interviewing and the strengths-based perspective a plus.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army. The individual is not required to embrace the tenets of faith, but he/she is required to promote and respect the mission of The Salvation Army.
